THIS THING CALLED LOVE
It’s difficult to talk about something that’s better felt or experienced to be understood, so for this blog, I’m going to try to do something ..new, well, experimental just to come across. It plays on that primitive instinct that seems to lurk in every blogger. It’s called voyeurism. I hope you like it. Here goes..

You won’t believe what just happened. I mean he was just there right in front of me. I was looking for this file and he just beamed in front of me. I mean, totally. You know everything we talked about him before ..about his Mom, his job and why he has to reach at the back of his head when he’s waiting for a response – about how knowing all that was enough to make me like cool and in control. God, I couldn’t say a thing . All I could see was teeth and how he spoke. And I get this thing about him when I close my eyes. Carla, where are you when I need you? What’s wrong with your phone? Call please. You know my cell no. Edith
15 May, Friday
Phone call:
“Hello.. Editth..?”
“Carla? Did you get my email? Look, this isn’t a good time. Ed is just right around the corner”
“Hey, you called, remember? And this is important. It’s Ed? You’re actually dating Ed? Listen , there’s one more thing you ought to know, and I mean..”
“It’s like he just stepped out to the wash room”
“Wash room? So soon? I don’t care . Excuse yourself to the washroom when he comes. Let him wait. This is important.”
“Okay. I’m listening”
“About his mom. .Edith are you listening? It’s not just that he’s a momma’s boy. His friends say there’s like something oedipal going on between them.”
“Oedipal?! Edith are you sure?”
“Okay, I’ll call you later. I’ll find out , ok?”
Lake Soandso, East Coast 16 June, Saturday
“Jo-Ann! Jo-Ann!, over here”
“Hi, Ed.”
“Hey, great! You’re here. For awhile there , I thought you..you weren’t going to make it
“Now, why would I want to do that? Let’s get something to drink. It’s hot”
The two find a shady spot overlooking the lake and over sips of iced tea:
“You know it’s really great having you here. I don’t want to sound dumb having to repeat that but really I feel like you’re someone I could just pour my heart out to.”
“Really? “She looks down. Then looks up at him smiling “Sure you’re not going to spill all over me now, are you?”.
He smiles, looks at her, breathes easy and shakes his head. “You come across so easily. I feel so comfortable..and happy. It’s not like..”
“Not like what..or who..?”
“It’s nothing.”
“So what happened with the pouring out? Looks like it’s more of a gurgle.”She snickers.
Ed smiles and pauses. “ Okay, when we met and you were asking directions and I was trying to explain why there wasn’t a straight road leading to the Statue of Liberty from where you were..”Ed chuckles, “having a date with you was the farthest thing from my mind. I mean, it was only later when I had to spend time with you, guiding you, and seeing those eyes..”
“These eyes..?”JoAnn flutters her eyelashes and does a cross-eye.
“yes, those eyes..that I just got curious and just thought about you all day, what you do ,how you think. You know, just.. it just became, like an obsession, but it’s not”
“and..?”
“And what ?”
“and what happened with.. ‘it’s not like Miss who?”
“Oh, before we met. I was sort of in a dating mood, and I met this really pretty Miss ,but it didn’t work out.”
“Why so?
“It just didn’t. You know,I just felt uncomfortable when she started to needle me with questions I thought I had already answered.”
Joann reached out her hands to his brow and tried to massage the furrows she saw. “You know”,she said, “there’s a knot here that needs to be untied”.
Ed draws his face nearer, “That’s why I’m drawn to you.”
“Ed..hmpph…”
From across the lake two figures become one.

Letter:
David,
I can’t take this anymore. I loved you. I gave myself to you. I thought you were willing to do the same. I mean all the way. I don’t think I treated you badly for me to deserve this.
Do you really think I wouldn’t find out about you and Carla?
Your apartment keys are here. Give them to her. Bye,
Edith
So, now that you’ve listened in, what do you think ?
There’s a part II to this trail of events, but if there are no comments, I’ll drop this.
