Planet Evacuation

I was wondering if there was any way to evacuate the entire population of a planet and sent the population to other planets.

In particular I was thinking of a weapon that would destroy a planet over a number of turns rather than all at once like a terror star. That would give the people time to flee. :)

I've only been reading about the game on this forum, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about :p

Cheers!

Can you imagine " to evacuate the entire population of a planet and sent the population to other planets. " WHEN a planet is under attack? Do you believe even is this would be possible, the population would survive? I mean, obviously there are Ships and Troops at or around the planet involved. Which would mean at least not the ENTIRE population could flee. Porbably NO One could. Perhaps some could survive on the planet and start a guerilla war?

And yet, it may be possible. If you see a terror star approaching, you know you have at least a turn or three to "get out of there". A terror star is extremely slow, with only one move point per turn even after researching all of those speed enhancing techs. So you could buy a colony ship (its capacity is unlimited), then next turn load all of your population onto the colony ship and skeedadle. A terror star can not attack a ship, so it *could* work. Where you run your risk is with any attack capable ships escorting the terror star. If you can't outrun them, then your colony ship is toast.

Ok Ok..... Perhaps I was thinking more along the lines of a natural disaster, like a Sun that will go super nova in a matter of turns and will wipe out a planet. If the Race can travel in space I would expect most people to evacuate. I can see not EVERYONE making it, but at least they would give it a go. It happens in Sci-Fi books and movies!!

Yes, but that is completely different. Just wait untill the game release to find out what all is possible.

But besides Terror Stars, imagine other Cavalry like attack ships and special troops, Marines or whatever. The chance a whole population could flee in real life is zero, even if they can foresee what's coming.

Another one just reading the forum, no expirience with the game.

Can you stop a terror star once started? As in, can you start it, watch their population flee, stop the terror star and land your own colony on this now deserted world?

I like to believe captain Spock's "there are always alternatives".

Besides, in our current real life status, the chance of even 1 of us escaping is almost nill, so I don't see how your analogy applies to the game.

There is at least one random event that can prompt the evacuation of a star system.

Reading this brought up a question, is it possible to play the game by just living in giants ships and not taking planets?

I know it probably won't work, and if it did probably wouldn't be a good idea, but I'd really like to know.

Well, nice, that's what events are for. Let's assume we have the technology to explore the universe, we also possibly could predict our sun to go supernova, as a matter of fact we already know now when this will happen to our Sun (don't worry, it will take another 5 billion years at least :) )

Pezdispenser,
No. Planets supply your resource and production bases. People loaded onto a colony or transport ship are essentially removed from the game until you use them to either colonize or attack a planet.

Technically, Sol will never be a supernova. It's not massive enough for a Type II supernova and we don't have a companion dwarf star for a Type I.

In about 5 billion years, after going through an expansion phase and reaching out past the orbit of Earth, it'll eventually start sloughing off material in the form of a planetary nebula as transitions to be a white dwarf.

While it's a nice thought, I don't see planet evacuation as a real possibility even hundreds of years into the future. Maybe a few rich people could be evacuated but not all the poor people.

I have had to evacuate a newly taken Planet during games where I've attacked with a single transport; a planet that has had 8-10 times the population, used Core Detonation or Mass Drivers and then found that I am so much more powerful than the defenders; that I win and destroy a good planet ie take it down to a class 12-13. Only humane option is to abandon the colony after removing the population. (:(
