grrr... stupid metaverse... can someone tell me what the deal is?

I just finished another game, and now for the third time in a row, my score is not showing up on the Metaverse. I am fully patched, and the correct user name and e-mail address were in the boxes on the metaverse submission page... so what's the deal? >:( :sniff!:

oh, here's something... is this how it works for you guys?

when i click the "submit" button at first it just sits there and does nothing... then when i click it again, it quits to the desktop...

I only hit the submit button once and wait. It's taken anywhere from 5 seconds up to almost 30 seconds to send the info. It then drops back to the main menu.

Did you register your game with the Metaverse? It's not the same step as registering the game and/or for the forum. Go to the main metaverse page. Near the top is a link that says "Register your player". Click on that, enter a name and your CD-Key then try again.

Indeed, the problem probably lies with registering with the Metaverse. It must be done separately.

yes, i already registered with the metaverse... i even sucessfuly submitted my very first score... but none since

i just figured it out...

if you have SETI@Home running, you can't submit your score to the metaverse... I shut it down and tried again and the score went right through...

Well I dont have ANYTHING running, I am registered with metaverse, and hitting submit just exits me to the desktop. I hate bugs :(

Sometimes, you have to re-register with Metaverse. I don't know why, but this has helped many that couldn't submit to the 'verse.

Other things are : Don't run Seti@home in the background, and don't run Star Dock Central in the back ground.

You do have to be online at the time, as well.

From another thread - a tip I will try out as soon as I get home - try killing your DSL (or whatever) and reconnecting just before doing the submission - apparently it is known to "lose" knowledge of your being online sometimes...

Make sure you use your CAPS *precisely* how you did when you registered. All the fields seem to be case sensitive.

ucla_vince: happy it worked, since we are in the same empire I wouldn't want to miss your scores to keep us ahead of the rest. :)

::sob:: still doesn't work for me.

Huh - go figure - I am IN!
Changed my metaverse registration, so that instead of my GC serial number, I used my DreginNet serial number - et voila!

Now my "I can't put stuff on the metaverse" posts all have lots of symbols - hehe!

I just finished a game last night with 1.02 and it was a mess. Was a gigantic game and I went for massive developement, and near the end it became unstable as hell (crashing every couple of turns, had around 9000 billion people and a -lot- of colonized worlds). I wanted to max it out (it wasn't even close to maxxed) but decided I couldn't take it any more. So I culture flipped the last AI's, won, and then the more bugs: in my victory summation it had the correct difficulty (Normal) but incorrect comp AI values (had them as Fool when they were actually Normal). Then I click on submit and...nothing. No error message, just didn't get the submission. I've submitted 6 games prior to this, and I know how to do it, it just failed to submit. Possibly that Normal/Fool issue made it think my game was hacked? Brad asked for a copy of the game, he has it now, hopefully he can figure out what the problem is.

Made me mad though, I'd spent about 3 days on that game and it was going to rock when I submitted it, now it's in limbo. Plus I wanted to see how high I could push things with several maxxed-out morale resources, all the planetary moral improvements, and almost no spending overhead so very low tax sliders. Plus I spent about 2 hours settling all the worlds in my systems that were between PQ 10 and 14 that I hadn't settled before (on a gigantic map that is a -lot-). Oh well. Maybe Brad can fix it so the score can get calced correctly and submitted, I can still hope. :)

I finished another game today and it submitted to the Metaverse just fine. Which was a relief, because after that failed submission I mentioned above I was worried that the patch somehow messed up my submissions. But apparently it was that game being corrupted that kept the submission from happening, the Metaverse probably thought it was a hacked game.

I read in the Bug thread where another player with a super-heavily developed gigantic galaxy had problems with instability as well, so for those people out there that like to push the envelope be warned that you can end up with a real mess once you pass a certain point.

BLOODY HELL!!! SETI@HOME stops it sending?!?!?!?! MAN, that annoys me. I had an AWESOME Score the other day (for me, anyway, anything over 1000 makes me happy) and I noticed it didn't send. The next day, I patched to 1.02, and now cannot even reload that saved game!! >:(
I will now UNINSTALL seti@home and resend last nights game at least!! Thanks for the heads up!!

Vorlin, have you tried loading an earlier save of that game and trying to win and submit?

Phaedyme, yeah, the problem seems to be just too many colonized planets, it's corrupting the games internal data and evidently it's causing the Metaverse not to accept the game because it thinks it's hacked. By the time I noticed the problem all my autosaves and my manual save were all too deep into the issue to help. I might try loading it later, deleting several system, then doing a save/reload and see if I can salvage it. It is around a 3700 or so score, which would be my best so far, so I'd like to post it if I can.

Man, I swear somedays it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. I went back to that game, and decided before deleting any systems that I'd play with the sliders some (thinking maybe they are having overflow problems somewhere because of the large economic values of about 27000 a turn in both expenses and tax revenue). So I lower both a big chunk, and then I turn up military spending so it is 50% along with 50% social. Well, somewhere in there that fixed my crashing problem.

So I'm thinking "Great, now I can finally get this puppy on the Metaverse". So I flip the last remaining AI planets, the score comes up and it's only 3300 or so but I'll take it, and I'm pretty confident because this time the info is accurate (AIs listed as Normal game with all Normal AIs whereas before it had them corrupted as Normal game with all Fool AIs). I submit, go to the metaverse...(the tension is killing you, right?) and nothing. Again, nothing. I guess this game is just too big (6900 billion pop, about 217 planets colonized) and some internal 'error' checking is rejecting the game as invalid.

One day I'll find a strategy game that doesn't punish me for being a good player, but that day apparently isn't here yet. This all started for me back in the old Railroad Tycoon days when they used short integers for the economic values so having a great game meant you ended up financially ruined. Ah well, looks like it's time for me to get off the train, BitterTown is just up ahead. ;p

Hey, cool down! I'm sure, they get it fixed. Stardock really does a good job here...

I doubt Vorlin would've put so much work into the game if he didn't think it was a good job, but his frustration is certainly understandable.

Anyway, have you seen the other reports that are very similar to yours, Vorlin? It looks like two or three others have also run into this.

(I probably could, but, wow, that'd be a long game)

It's not worth it, score-wise, I don't think. Even with 217 planets and 9000 billion (my first run through) I only had like 3700 (normal difficulty). Which is good, I think, because we all know how utterly annoying it was for us obsessive-compulsive types who just had to max out our scores in SMAC and Moo2. What a mind-numbing excusion into the land of tedium that was. *laugh* GalCiv seems more sane when it comes to scoring a given game.

I wasn't mad, just frustrated.

True, I just read a post elsewhere from someone complaining how having the Klackons surrender to another race just as he was going to wipe out every single race *and* the Antarians in the same turn cost him something like 50 points.
