Code Monkey, is your planet's orbit queue full? If so it won't let you build any more ships until some leave orbit. I figure you know about this and are probably talking about something different, but thought I'd mention it just to be thorough. :)

Moonmood, often a bonus takes a turn to kick in, so you might pick up a +10 bonus but it won't show in your stats until the next turn has gone by.

I have a problem with 1.03A.057: I can't start a game. It crashes to desktop when I click the Done panel: Start new game, customize race, see the speech, then done - crash.

"Code Monkey, is your planet's orbit queue full? If so it won't let you build any more ships until some leave orbit. I figure you know about this and are probably talking about something different, but thought I'd mention it just to be thorough."

I suspected this might be part of the problem (I do have about 3 systems chock full of corvettes from the "you found a truckload of corvettes" event) but the weird thing is that it's all of my systems that have been affected.

I'll try popping some of the ships out of the full orbits and see if it untriggers this universal ban on building.

Followup to #405:

Yep, went back to an autosave about 6 turns before the complete lockdown occurred and started paying attention to full orbits and everything went normally.

I get an unrecoverable crash in the following circumstances:

After researching Diplomacy (i think) a new form of government is available to me (Republic). I didn't switch immediately (sort of forgot), but after maybe 8 turns I remembered, saved, and decided to switch. When the election window pops up, there's the "next" button for me to press to see the election results. After I press that an error message pops up (must alt-tab out of the game to see it), and the game freezes. The error message is as follows,

ASSERT Failed

g_cFGObjects == 0
At line 5868 of d:\builds\nt32_chk\multimedia\dshow\filters\core\filgraph\filgraph\filgraph.cpp
Continue? (Cancel to debug)

The error window seems to be frozen as well because I can't click on any of the buttons ... after a bit Win XP tells me that the applications are not responding and terminates GalCiv along with the error message window.

I have the latest version of the game (1.03A.057) running on WinXP. My CPU is an Athlon T-Bird 1.40 Ghz with 768 Mb of RAM. Video is a GeForce 3. Sound an Audigy 2 Platinum.

I noticed you ask for save games from some folks, if you want mine please tell me where to send it.

Bunch o' bugs:
- sending out a transport from a system with 2 or more colonized planets, will only update info (pop., moral, etc.) for planet launching the transport
- "we have noticed the buildup" messages often come in two's and even threes (consecutively)
- sorting by soc/mil production ignores the bonus part of production
- when selecting a ship from the ship list, screen view and info in bottom right info window will update, but clicking dismiss button will ask to dismiss the previously selected ship (hard to notice if you're not looking at the dismiss warning)
- when asking or offering money in trade window, amount should not be limited to available funds (me or AI). Assuming AI has 50bc, if I can ask for 50bc for 3 months, why not 100 for 1 ?
- when selecting stationary base, range should not be shown. Also, you can set an auto-nav path for it, which shows on map, but does nothing
- loading a game tends to cause diplomatic events such as peace offers (to me or between AI races), even though they would not have occured during normal gameplay
- can't send more than 14 ships on auto-nav - extra routes will cancel existing ones (bug ?)
- not really a bug, but hey.. -> races at war with you should not be too eager to trade things (tech, goods..). when close to eliminating a race with tech advantages, you can trade for all of the AI's techs, giving whatever techs/goods you own, knowing they'll be gone soon enough.

Here's my most recent crash in the game (Logged by SE).

NOTE: ALL of my video drivers (video card, DX, etc...) are all updated.

This crash happened during loading a saved game. I also have experienced a couple more crashes (they wern't logged by SE) that seem similar, but they happened during gameplay. It always seems to happen when there's too many 'sprites' or things going on in my game. My computer memory is fine. Here are the specs if ya need them:

Pentium 4 2.53 GHz
640 MB DDR SDRAM
Geforce 4 MX 440 (I believe its 64MB of shared mem)
Sound (default, whatever came with the comp)
Direct X 9.0a
GalCiv: 1.03A.057 (my saved games are the same version)
Also all of my drivers on my comp. is updated.

Here's the SE log of what happened when I tried to load my game (the other crashes wern't recorded):

I might be misunderstanding how all this works but....

Are the effects of multiple starbases mining the same resource supposed to be cumulative. In domestic politics abilities screen my morale was listed as +189%. In a save game I scrapped a star base giving me +68% morale through mining. I let the game run a turn and the domestic politics abilities screen didn't change.

This is not strictly game play related, however:

my machine is the mail server for the LAN. I have Mercury Mail Delivery service running at all times (under Win98), the other machines on the network can dump their mail on Mercury and the queue will be cleared when I go online.

When I have GalCiv running, connections to Mercury time out. The rest of the network appears to work just fine, but there seems to be some interference between Galciv and Mercury SMTP (port 110, standard). The problem appears less critical if GalCiv (full screen version here) is minimized.

CPU is a Tualatin 1.3Ghz, network gear is 100Mbit 3COM NICs with switch, all recent: I don't think it's a hardware [or] bottleneck issue.

cheers, -Peter

Bug 1.03A

Played game, experianced Graphics (Ship Icons) Display problems. These problems occured mid game. (If i rebooted the game from the save, the icons would be displayed for some time), however they would fail again, and more units would not display, (sensors, Combat transports) it looked like they were cloaked yet I could select and order them.

I have never experianced these problems until the latests 1.03A.

Also now my saved game will cause a direct crash to desktop when i try to load it. (both my own save and the auto save) for this particular game.

Happy to foward the saves if you would like to look at them.

-Phil

Dave, it takes 2 turns for the effects of eliminating a starbase mined resource to take effect (for both the player and the AI races). This is especially important to keep in mind if you are trying to blitzkreig a race with a lot of military resources, even if you take them all out in a first strike they'll still get two turns with the full bonus.

CTD error:

Occurs when a UP resolution has all Civilizations run under Star Democracy, then I finish researching the tech that gives me Star Republic. When it comes time to hold the vote, the game CTDs. Here is the data from the *.cra file, and if you want I can send you the savegame files and directories associated with this problem:

For the second time, I have a game that crashes quite early on when I try to switch governments for the first time to republican. The error log reads as follows (and I noticed its rather similar to posting #39 which documented a crash for a different reason). I noticed that when I tried to recover the game, in the area on the RHS of the screen where stacked spaceships appear, there were 16 little blank boxes. DOes Strategy First want a copy of the saved file, and if so, where should it be sent?

Thanks Vorlin Varelse for clarifying that.

Version 1.03A.057

Multiple Wonders/Trade Goods: 2 Major AIs built a the same unique wonder. Seperated by 8 turns, so I would guess that the second AI simply didn't get its build queue 'reset' when the wonder got completed.

Good job eliminating the ability to build any already built Trade Good/Unique Wonder from the General build queue.

Double clicking on star systems in main view can inadverdently change military and social projects:

If you double click on a star system in the main map view in an attempt to bring up the planetary management screen, the second mouse clicks is passed on as a single click in the planetary management screen. If the star system was position over what would be the military or social production box, then a player may inadverdently change their current military and social project. This is very annoying because you may not notice the change unless you heard the distinct click sound of switching project. There is also no way to recall the last project so you have to spend time guessing what exactly you were building before the mistake.

I just won a cultural victory. On my penultimate turn the last planet of the Altarians defected to me; they still had starbases and ships on the map but no more planets. (this may be irrelevant, but I traded all my tech to them at this point in return for their two best developed star bases on resources). I ended my turn. Some starship movement took place, then, it looked like the victory sequence was about to kick in but instead the computer crashed to a black screen.
Had to power down and power back up to reset.

Incidentally, I had to save the game about 15 or 16 turns before the (above) end. When I saved my culture rating was around 96..98. When I reloaded the game it was 46. Admittedly it was back in the high nineties two..three turns later, BUT. Something a little screwy there; I think it's been pointed out before by others.

cheers, -Peter

I've got a problem after the game, ever since I've installed 1.3, continuing with all 1.3 updates installed since. After I quit the game, my system freezes and I have to reboot. I have no idea why, I have no problems in-game and never have. Win 98, GeForce 4 Ti 4200.

Badly corrupted save files--this has happened to me 2-3 times now, in all versions of the game. When save-game load bar hits 100%, game crashes and you get a Windows dialogue saying "Ddhelp has caused an error in . Ddhelp will now close." Here's the weird thing: after that happens an *uncorrupted* save file will not load unless you restart the entire computer. I.e., if (1) load savegame1 and game crashes, then if savegame2 is uncorrupted, (2) immediately restarting GalCiv and loading savegame2 will cause same crash, but (2) restarting computer, then restarting GalCiv, then loading savegame2 will proceed normally.

Until today, this corruption would only be limited to the most recent autosave (I have autosave set to every 1 turn) plus an even more recent mid-turn save. But today I experienced a total loss of the game I was playing--both autosave files plus my mid-turn file will not load. Very depressing.

jl333, I've sent an e-mail to you asking you a few questions.

BuzuBuzu, I sent you and e-mail asking for your save game.

EBZeroMatrix, also e-mailing you asking for the save game. Did you have any mods that you uninstalled since saving the game?

Peter: I'm inquiring about what could be going on with your server.

getloose: have you been installing/uninstalling modules?
