Should you punish fraudulent bloggers?

Just as in situations in real life, when someone lies to you you simply have to learn, swallow the pill and sadly be a little more sceptical in the future. I don't believe punishments are something that you could effectively impose on people. Would you do it with Sir Pete? Just because we understand his character, doesn't mean he has ever admitted to it being fiction nor deviated from it.

But then again, I realised the person at the centre of this contraversy was full of it from the word go and as such am not personally agrieved by the situation. .

Sounds crass, but I could really care less. I have enough problems with my own life to really worry about someone else's lies that don't impact me directly.

I feel I invested emotionall in this, supporting this fictional family. I am not looking for vengence. I don't understand why anyone would do this. I hope they get mental help though.

16 year old girls are crazy... no one can understand them... I guess we have all learnt a lesson in this... not take anything at face value.

Janders I completely understand where you are coming from with this, and the worst part of all this is that the kindness of nice people was taken advantage of, but this was an attention seeking exercise. These people obviously had no other way for drawing attentio to themselves other than lying. For that, instead of punishing them I would feel sorry for them, that they were to ashamed to show the real them. At the end of the day it will be their loss, not anybodies here. We will carry on supporting, and encouraging each other, and what will they have? What they had from the start, nothing. The best way to punish people like that is to not give them the thing they tried to get, attention.

I just think that what did it for me is the baby. My baby daughter died. so anyone lying and making up a near death of a baby is the sickest thing to me. I wonder what will happen if she ever has children and one becomes deathly ill..... Will she wish she never pretended?

It's sad, I agree, but some people just need "look at me!" and resorts to all kinds of tactics to do that. Pretty recently there was a "kidnapping" that scared parents and other students there. It ended up that that "kidnapped" girl left, and after she returned, she acted like she kidnapped and released, but admitted that it was faked later on.

Yes that was in Wisconson. She was from MN ( Where I am from). THe weird thing is within a day of that "abduction" my "BSmeter" totally went off. I got a lot of comments that I was horrible for thinking that somone would fake that....

sure enough a few days later.... it was a a lie.... look how those who cared suffered. SICK

ive run across some outrageously bizarre fabricated personae.  at the top of that list is a guy who, over the course of about 10 months, had experimental cancer treatment, 'died' and returned from the grave.  the kicker is...this was his 2nd time around; i later met some people whod been devastated when hed done it 18 months earlier in another venue. 

altho i never had any contact with him personally, i was able to determine his real name, address and phone number. i'd been planning on shopping the story to network tv news magazines in hopes of exposing him as well as exposing him (hopefully) to prosecution for some related illegalities,  but was asked by 2 of his victims not to initiate any action against him because it would have possibly jeopardized their family situations.

Question - shouldn't Draginol or Karma be able to check their IP address you know how Dan & his persona couldn't blog at the same time and Brad was able to tell they were the same person - wouldn't he be able to do the same for this situation assuming it is all made up??

I think knowing your story is one of the factors that makes it so hideous to me, as well. I knew it would be difficult for you to read about it....and I'm sorry that you were put through that....by someone who is in such denial of a problem that they resort to blacklisting those who confront them.

I feel for you entirely. I spent a week at the hospital praying, losing sleep, and crying because my baby was in the isolation room with RSV. The doctors were afraid she wasn't going to make it and were going to fly her to Denver. They even had me go home to pack my stuff! I came back with my bag, and she had turned around. She was on oxygen for 2 months afterward. It was the scariest thing in my life. For those of us who have gone through something like this.........it just cuts very deep, ya know?

I've been blacklisted too, it seems.  Because I asked her to give me some pertinent information.  It sucks that she deleted some of the articles - but I'm still going to go look at 'Emma's' blog and compare phrases, terminologies and writing styles to 'Ashlee's'.

It won't be conclusive evidence, none of what I've turned up so far is...I've just come up empty-handed, which means I've found no record of any person of those names living in that area or any other area.  The fact that we haven't been provided with the name of the hospital or tha name of the post as yet..well, that's all the evidence I need.  She knows, I think, that I would call the base locator or the pediatric ICU and make enquires.

I still think we should come up with a code of ethics for bloggers.

Yes, it was for a while back in July.  Ashlee changed hers recently.

I cannot understand why she would start coemthing like this, and why she kept it going.  All I can think is that it was an attention seeking tactic, and that she simply got carried away with it.  Whether she took time to consider how many people were getting dragged into it emotionally or not, I don't know.  She probably thought that she wouldn't get caught.  She thought wrong.

I think anyone with a reasonable amount of intelligence realises why I blog, whether you enjoy my work or not. I certainly do not blog in order to get a few gullible people praying over a fictitious dying baby.

Jo when you call and explain this all to me, please explain Mr Peter Maxwell also. I have always considered him a pretender from the start.

Remember guys part of why most of us feel a connection to each other is that we are truly compassionate and caring people, and when you share part of your self with others even in this format you do become real to others, and the feelings are the same and real as if we met in person. We feel we get to know you same as you would have gotten to know a new neighbor on the block with over the fence visits in the good old days.

It is always upsetting to realize someone you invested your emotional energy in wasn't worth your time.
