Why My Blog Doesn’t Count

Because it can’t

Every day I log on to my JU acount here, I’m constantly unsatisfied with myself. My articles don’t attract any attention, and I remain basically anonymous. So, in the light of these thoughts, I’ve come to the conclusion that my blog doesn’t really count.

I started this blog to share my thoughts with others and to try and create an environment for conversation about topics that I think are important. What happens when others don’t share their thoughts back? Nothing happens. And that’s what happens when I post something on JU. I feel whiney, horrible, and maybe sub-par for this “public writing” thing. In fact, in one of my earlier posts, I was told that I wasn’t even a good writer.

I guess life is what you make of it, right? Sometimes it feels like every time I take a step forward I fall two steps back. I feel helpless and out of control. Whilst my other friends maintain a high level of public JU respect, or at least JU visibility, I remain in the shadows. Maybe if I posted more articles, replied to all the articles I read.... I don’t know.

So, in closing, my blog doesn’t count, because it can’t. It can’t count unless other people see it. So if only two or three other people see it, am I really achieving the goal I’ve created? I don't know.

Hold on, I guess, when you feel like letting go.

Peace or whatever,

Beebes

Hang in there... I know how ya feel. Who are you really ding this for anyway when you think about it? Keep writing and keep enjoying and expressing yourself. I made it into the top 100 once and felt empty about it. So what? I thought. I reinvented myself and came back. This time for me. Stay in touch dude!

Hey I'm just like you. The most comments I have ever gotten was 11 but most get none. I am just happy that I have a place to rant and rave like everyone else. It's nice when you can get some feedback from people but screw it, just write what you feel and if people don't care oh well. It seems like you have to right something very controvesial to get comments anyways. I just write about whatever I am feeling at the time. If someone likes it, great. If no one comments, oh well at least I got it out of my system.

I recognize your name immediately. A sad consequence of conflict is that it seems to draw all the attention. The threads that piss people off are the ones that people flock to. I have posted a couple of items that I thought wre really, really good, and nothing. They were much better than my "politics" articles in terms of writing and interest, but I don't think most people come here for that kind of thing. They come here to lop off heads and burn the village.

Not your fault. If you can blog and keep things on an even enough keel that your threads aren't taken over by the warring clans, then you are doing better than most of us, imho.

How many other people blogs do you read mate?

you only get out of blogging what you put in.

I think everyone has encountered that. I write something that I think is entertaining and interesting, and I get zip. I copy and paste some little nothing from some e-mail I get from a friend and I get a swarm of comments. It don't make sense!

I think a part of it is timing. There have been times where I have seen my new blogs roll off the "Recent JoeUser Articles" so fast that I can't imagine anyone actually reads them. The only hope is that they will pop up in the forums, or that you have a following of readers that will check your blog site directly.

Thanks for the support.

I don't reply to most of the articles I read, but I do read a majority of the articles that come through the "Recent JoeUser Articles" section unless they are about computer skinning and things like that. I read all of the Top JoeUser Articles, and all of the Featured articles as well. So, I am putting things into it. I just guess it's about replying...

Sometimes I feel put off by the lack of response to an article I write, but then I realize that I really can't do anything about it. I really don't understand why people come here to
to lop off heads and burn the village
when in reality, they could just try and discuss topics in a way that doesn't promote that sort of thing.

Sometimes it feels that way all the time, BakerStreet. I only have one or two people who read my blog a lot, so props to carebear07 and Capt. Cornbread for their support.

Sometimes I just wonder why I should spend time and energy to try and discuss topics with people when I can't get a response to anything I write, you know?

Peace,

Spot on bro...

How do other people know you read their blogs? If you just leave a quick comment voicing your opinoin on said article, or at least congratulating the author for the articulation, or even condemning the author for insolence, you will find a lot more people replying to you!

Keep on Blogging dude!!!

I try not to write for response, although I have some articles that were designed to get people's opinions. I think if you are worried about how much patronage your site gets then you are setting yourself up for disappointment. When I write something I assume that no one is going to read it, much less comment, so when I do get a comment it comes as a precious pearl for me.

That's true too. Take it from a confirmed point whore.

Thanks Muggaz and CS Guy for the helpful hints. I'll try to make sure I let people know I read their stuff in the future.

I try not to write for response

Most of the time I try to do the same, but some articles I write are meant for open speculation and discussion.

Thanks again.

Peace,

Eh, don't worry about it....once you get a couple big hitters people will swarm your blog like Amazonian army ants devouring the carcass of some hapless animal that didn't wake up in time to avoid being cut up and consumed.....(Good figure of speech yes?)

Good luck and keep at it,

I'd probably say the same stuff that everyone else already has. I feel the same way as well, my articles hardly get any response unless it's vulgar (female orgasm) or controversial (Pete Maxwell). Write to write, your blog counts just the same as everyone elses here. I reply to plenty of articles, and unless it's political, I usually never see them again and I don't care if people think I'm just a stupid kid who doesn't know anything about anything.

You're alright big fella. It seems like you've been on kind of a stressful, emo ride lately. It's nearing the end of summer, just enjoy yourself.

Hey Alex, don't worry. You'll come around sometime. When I first started on here hardly anybody came to my articles except for Capt., Shaun, and Madpoet. Yeah, I've made myslef known on here, because I try to. You can't just go around reading things and not respond. I agree with Muggaz in saying that you should leave comments instead of just reading them. I know people like your blogs. If they didn't you wouldn't have anyone responding on this one. Trust me. Just make sure to leave a comment here and there. Don't worry you'll get noticed. And what kind of friend would I be if I didn't come here and read your artcles and respond to them, huh? Well I wish you the best of luck in gettin more noticed. I have been trying to help with that. Usually when I right an article about other people on here I try to mention your site. So good luck!!

Beebles,

I enjoy your blogs immensely. You have been a consistent and interesting blogger.

For the record, the vast majority of my articles have no responses, or one or two. It's frustrating sometime, because sometimes those pieces are your best work. But you have to remember what you're here for.

CS GUY!!!! Damned good to have you back, man. I've got some good libertarian material I could use your help on...c'mon over to my blog and check it out!
