Devs :: Future Plans for Terror Stars

A few Questions ::

1)Are there Plans to expand on the terror star idea ?

2)Should using a Terror star to obliterate a system or even having one have a built in ethical modifier that moves the alignment towards evil ?

3)Is there a way to add a "good tech" terror star that maybe replaces its cannon with +moral +culture broadcaster (These might have a slightly differnt look) Like a starbase of the red crross...Sacisanct(sp?) and unattackable unless UP votes them so.

4) Is there a way to add living space modules to terror stars ? Something must be available to repalce obliterated system. Dysons sphereish

5) Are terror stars suppose to be able to "pick up" galatic resouces and move with them when they gain mobility ?

1) Not that I've heard.

2) It's been suggested, but not implemented yet. Try making a mod for it. :)

3) You can already have Party Palace terror stars... some people call them Terror Starbucks. If you want a different graphic/set of modules for them, those should be relatively easy for the modders to whip up.

4) Again, heard it suggested, but not implemented.

5) No idea.

I've never felt the use of terror stars to be a moral issue either way.

Um. Blowing up a star? Not a moral issue? Um.
Okaaay.

Of course, I realize your opinion of morality may vary, but really, mass genocide on that scale should have some backlash.

You're essentially committing mass slaughter when you invade a planet anyway. If that doesn't lower your alignment, neither should terror star use.

I do think it would be pretty cool to be able to build new planets in star systems. Not sure how it would be implemented, but I'm pretty sure it should be a seperate construction task from the terror stars. Or maybe be able to build Dyson spheres: It's a long social project for a planet, and the result is that all the regular planets in the system go away and are replaced with a single very highly rated planet with the total populations of the old planets.

I think what he means is that using terror stars to blow up stars is like using nukes in Civ, or planet busters in SMAC. It's considered an atrocity, and everyone likes you a lot less when you do it (although they probably fear you a lot more, as well).

If an enemy starsystem is developing a bioweapon spread out on all the system's planets for security reason, and his evil intent is to use it to exterminate all humans, AND you just lost a ton of warships in a war so you cannot mount a big, prolonged invasion to stop him BUT you can build a terror star in time to use it and save humanity....using it is evil?

There should be some backlash for using the terror star. Doctahg, the situation you mentioned is a rarity, as it stands I go crazy, even when I'm pure good, destroying systems left and right with ease.

It's like the Rebellion in star wars, seeing the Death Star, suddenly built their own and went to blow up Coruscant (THe Empire's Capital)... I think this tech should be shifted to the evil tech category, maybe with some sort of Happy Star (lol or something better named) that can be built in defense of the terror star.

Does the AI even know how to use Terror Stars? I haven't seen one yet that they have built, if thats the case.. then it may be un-balancing also because a human player can go around taking out all the top planets, while the AI sends its fighters and crappy ships to die against the star. :notsure:

I've seen the AI build terror stars before. The only time I've seen them complete one though was when they were upgrading a resources starbase which seems odd.

"If using it is evil?"

Yes. Justified, but still evil. Good and evil aren't situation-dependent concepts. But this isn't a philosophy forum, so let's not go there. :)

What about a better sound effect when they get used, or a small movie? There are clips for events like finding your first anomaly and so on, why not for something as major as building/using the first Terror Star? At *least* some sort of better audio feedback for their use would be nice... They just sort of beep and things move on. :p

Hey, it's better than Doom Star, or Star of Certain Oblivion. ;p

Giant Flaming euvos of constant Nuclear Fusion bigger than several hundred planets put together and they are also painted a scary color ?

Some of the previous moral choices set presitent(sp?) for use of a terror star to be a moral dilema. Forget the mass destruction and billions of people killed and think for un momento about the poor fuzzy cute animals, the race of relocated cavemen and the various forms of assimilated sea life (including those living in biospheres). The choice to blow up a star doesnt just effect the civilization that governs there. Its like millions of tiny fuzzy voices all screaming out at once. Plus I just think this terror star idea has a lot of unmined potential.
