GalCiv won't run

A few months ago I installed GalCiv, and later updated it to Altairian Prophecy. It never worked but I installed other stuff and I never bothered. GalCiv.exe gets started (I see it running as a process) but nothing happens.

I believe there were threads about this - a dodgy DLL or something - but I deleted them. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

I too have this problem with galciv. I was trying to run it on a laptop, which had all the required hardware, so I figured it must have been a compatibility issue, but the problem the previous poster describes is exactly the same one I am getting.

I click the exe, it launches, except the screen stays in the windows environment, nothing happens. A check in the processes screen will show galciv.exe but that is as far as things go.
