Destroy Colony ...a somewhat broken feature

This feature should be changed ...
First there is NO confirmation required, so if you click, colony is lost, and the screen changes to another colony ... And if you're not sure it has taken effect and re-click, BWAM, another colony lost !!! :sniff!:
This should really be fixed !

More importantly perhaps, I find the feature is unlogical and allow for real cheesy tactics of preventing loss to enemy of a colony (along with facilities and techs), or to simply get rid of discontent citizens, as it can be used at no cost and doesn't require anything to take effect.

What should be possible ? Some ideas :
* Either to BLAST planet, population included, but at a high BC cost and tech requirement, with undoublty loss of support from the empire population, and/or loss in PQ (as Invasion tactics) !
* Or to move out the colonists, maybe the button could rush-build a colony ship and load them (at normal 0 turn rush build cost) and "rush-destroy" facilities(at some cost again, a Fusion Plant shouldn't disappear like that !)

There should be a confirmation button for such a drastic action - although it's not that easy to accidentally hit that particular button and I would think that one would be doing this action very little.

It would seem that destroying your own colony should cause an alignment hit and possibly an empire-wide morale hit as well.

It probably shouldn't be an instant action either...more of a random countdown (while people flee of their own means or whatever)....mostly to prevent using this action for (cheesy) strategy.

Another thing to consider is that many large-scale actions in the game are simplified. The button may just say 'destroy colony' but that doesn't necessarily mean you nuke the planet. It just means you no longer have a colony - for all you know it could imply that people were evacuated and facilities scrapped - but perhaps this scrapping/evacuation doesn't give you any type of reward or gain. Perhaps rather than burden you with the gruesome details of a colony 'closing' the tedious details are hidden or something...

The draginol random event is hinted to with the "somehting evil is on this planet, the senate advises we destroy it."

Hmmmm, destroy colony, get ass served on plate by dragonil 10 turns later....Hmmmmmm ;) ;)

So colonoy destruction IS useful at times :)

IMHO yes, it is useful currently, and even too easy to do : no cost, no delay, no empire impact on morale. It should thus be made MORE difficult/costly/lengthy, have prereqs, etc...
And even assuming the game simplify actions, making everything go *poof* -disappear on a 2B+ planet in one month is rather margical LOL !

Destroying a colony to avoid the Draginol was somewhat useless for me. I evacuated the planet, destroyed the colony, waited two years and re-colonized the planet. About a year later, BLAM! Draginol. OK, I was prepared and had some troop transports parked nearby, but it was strange.

The funny part was that I had colony ships from each major race parked on the far side of the blockade fleet for two years LOL

Yes, confirmation a must. After several hours of play, it is easy for sleepy players to hit the wrong button.

Another vote for having negative consequences of destroying own colony with out evacutating first(morale hit, Alignment hit, small BC hit).

Thought there should be an option to relocate the population tho it should take longer to do this (2-3 turns?) and this should also have a small BC hit!
