Galactic Civilizations: Prelude to War!

For the holidays we're releasing a free expansion for Altarian Prophecy players.  It's a new multi-mission mini campaign that sets the back story for Galactic Civilizations II.

The beta of it should be going up on Stardock Central imminently with the "final" version this Friday (basically the only difference will be some gameplay tweaks so it's probably worth trying out the beta because you may get to see things that won't be in the released version).

I can say having made the campaign that I wish we had done more of these over time. The more we make, the better I think we get at making these maps and scenarios. I'm really enjoying playing the missions and we hope you do too. Let us know what you think.

To get it, you'll need to use Stardock Central and update your Altarian Prophecy module.  It won't be on there until this afternoon EST.

That must be what I DL'd earlier. Just look in the campaigns?

I know where to look, but there wasn't anything there that was added. I don't quite know if it's because the folder is still Drengin.net or something else...

You have to click on the campaign button on the title menu and then select Prelude to War in order to start the campaign.

I know how to activate a campaign, but generally a campaign will have files to go with it, yes? There are none, as far as I can see...

Lucian, do you get anything with today's update?

If not, please send your gcx.log file to [email protected] with a screenshot of the campaign screen.  Also please search your harddrive for the file Prelude To War.gccampaign to make sure that it didn't get installed to the wrong location.

I've updated to "Prelude to War". Almost immediately I found a bug! The bug is I can no longer run the original campaign. After loading it comes up with blank screens (though you can still see and click on the interface). After clicking on "Menu", it crashes to the system!

OK! Nobody panic! I've found the problem. I'd first started the old campagin a while ago and the autosave wasn't compatable with the latest version so there you go!

I had trouble getting the update too. Stardock kept telling me my AP was updated but when I went back it still said I needed the update. It wasn't until I clicked on the AP line and then manually clicked on the Update button that I got the download.

I don't know if this is connected to the campaign or if it's just a bug, but when I tried to attack the Torian homeworld in the first mission with a battleaxe (pretty stupid yeah, but anyway) my whole computer shutdown. Is this a campaign thing or should it go in the general bugs section?

That's the Torian's new Omni-Defense system. Whenever you attack their homeworld, it stops the attack by shutting down your computer, then, to prevent any future attacks, it erases the game from your hard drive.

Just spent three tries (most of this afternoon) attempting to kick some Torian buttocks, and ya know what? It's friggin' HARD!

I love it LOL

Thanks for a great update; looks like I'm gonna be burning the midnight coffee for a while

Thank You! I thought it was just me. I just got toasted on my first attempt on normal difficulty.

btw... why do advanced troop ships get such a high defense; when I attack them with BATTLESHIPs the BB loses!?

Yip I am also finding it quite difficult.
I finished the first mission on Normal and then thaught I would do the second one on Challenging,

That was a silly idea... LOL

Man this is a great game.

?????
I don't think there is any restriction about your score for uploading. You could submit loss.

at least I think thats why I couldn't upload...

If it is a campaign, I think you can only upload the result of the campaign, that is after the last scenario :)

Oh ok,

Thats a relief...
I would hate to miss uploading all my scores...

I think Tech would be upset with me! LOL
Thanx,
