I've been gone for six months, how's the base game improved?

And if nothing else, could someone point me to a list of version changes?

Oh, and did they ever do anything about the pesky minor races that have always been that one thing about the game that kept me from enjoying it fully? (Either in the base game or Altarian Prophecy, which I will strongly consider purchasing if it has any options regarding making the minor races play fairly.)

Well if you purchase Altarian Prophecy, (AP) you can turn off the minors competely. That said if you don't like them turn 'em off! There is also two new major races, and you can turn on and off any one of them. (the majors) There is also a map editor, campaign editor, and a senario editor. Along with a bunch of new tweaks, and four (4) new ships, two for evil side, and two for good side, it comes to a very good expansion! :D Also sometime soon (don't know exactly when though) stardock will be releasing the second patch for AP. Hope this helps!

In theory I like the idea of minor races. My problem with them is their ability to instantly build ships without even possessing the resources for doing so. In other words, cheating. Not. Cool. Especially when they build a fleet of Excalibur's despite possessing only two systems.

Well Ozar, I don't know what to tell you then. If you want the minors in the game still, but you don't like them "cheating" well you'll just have to either:
1) Cope with them, make them like you.
2) If option one doesn't work for you well, you can just do what I do and don't even give them a chance to cheat... ;)
3) And if none of those work, then just get AP and turn them off!
So I don't know what you want exactly, I guess thats your choice but there's my suggestions. I hope that my information/ideas can help you! :) (By the way, I've never noticed them cheating, but maybe thats just me. )

Minors don't cheat. They simply start out with a lot of money on hand.

What about building a fleet of a ship that you're lucky to make one of? I might be able to swallow them rush building one of these, but they filled up their system with the most powerful and expensive ship in the game.

Not to mention their obscene population growth.

When I see a new minor appear I immediately deliver a welcome to the galaxy basket to them using a Combat Transport. They are so happy to meet me that they join my alliance LOL

Well Ozar, like I said turn 'em off, or take 'em out!! Thats your two choices, (well I guess you could make alliances with them...) and like Frogboy and I said they don't cheat. (And he makes these games so don't question his assesments. ) They are very powerful, but since you don't have to do anything with them in order to win then I ussually just ignore them, or take them out for fun. :) Your choice, have fun!

Fair enough, but I'd still like to know how they accomplished that feat I described.

Hi Ozar,

when you have money and the technology you can build very very fast. Sometimes I'm in this lucky position by myself. Even Excaliburs can be build in two or three turns.

When a new minor appears I sell them my trade goods for all their influence and money (adjust the number of month that it fits for the planned arrival of your transport request :-)

Basically I had never any trouble with minors. They are just an extra planet and some money :CONGRAT:

Only with the patch, where the start up minors settled very many planets, I was a bit unlucky. But this was fixed with the next patch.

Welcome back to this great game.

Turning off minors? The game would be rather boring and ruin my strategy where I use them to do all trades with. Certain rather weak minors I will send in my transports to greet them! The federation culture is hard to resist!

If you join any Empire check out Star Fleet - NeoTech Gaming a Galciv & Stardock fansite. http://www.neotechgaming.com :HOT:

Can minors buy ships from other civs?

In said game where that occured, being the fact that I was the only one in possession of the technology and resources (Or so I thought) to assemble just one Excalibur after about 20 turns on my most productive planet, I don't see who they could have bought 32 of them from.

My solution to the problem that time was simultaneously blowing up both of their systems with Terror Stars, thus removing the offending super-ships which realistically, they should not have been able to obtain short of someone giving them away. Which, again, can't have been the case.

Another issue: Is it me, or are Space Sharks really more prevalent in recent patches? Running into one 5 turns into the game is seriously double plus ungood. :(

I ran into four space sharks at the beggining of my game, my strategy was to research enough stuff to get a battleship and blow them up or just lead them to my enemies :)
