My baby intimidates me

Okay my 6month old Elana intimidates me and here's why

she's a BOTTOM SHUFFLER

She's just discovered in the last few days that the bobbing up and down on the spot we used to think was dancing can actually get her around - she's fast too she could be on the other side of the room in a few minutes.
We haven't bought a high-chair - we got given one befroe she was born but somewhere in that time andd when we moved and when we wanted to start Elana on solids the straps for said chair have gone awol and as yet we haven't bought a new chair so we feed her when she's sitting on her mat propped up by pillows - it's worked for a few weeks now - till she discovered bottom shuffling.
Now instead of sitting quietly opening her mouth and eating while trying to get to the toys I've hidden behind my back so she's not distracted she shuffles to me to grap at the floral embroidery on my jeans and the pull on my nose and tip the food out I suspect - so she shuffles forward I move her back manage to get a mouthful of food in her mouth and then she shuffles forward again.

Alright so she's only a baby - and can't do anything but put her messy hands on me - but it's really hard to feed her when she's trying to jump on me.

** She's got me ARRGH :) - I'm sitting on the armchair in the corner of the lounge about 2metres from Elana's mat and I've been watching her bottom shuffle off the mat for a few minutes now and I just looked down and she grabbed my foot - she was underneath my chair reaching her arms up.

I was a bottom shuffler as well.  I never crawled, my mum said.

Nick's mum was also a bottom shuffler. Nick walked at 7months and ran at 8.

My mum can't remember anything about what I did despite the fact she didn't go back to work until 2 years after my sister was born which was 4 years after she had me - so I was 6 - but she remembers NOTHING - it's very helpful

carrot and sweet potato (I read somewhere that those to American's are yams? but since you're English you'd know sweet potato)

Yeah hated both of them - started to like the 4month cereal but we ran out and she was 6months so I started her on the 6month farex last week and she eats it but she doesn't like it - and she'll only happily eat the morning bowl mixed with her formula as opposed to the afternoon bowl mixed with sweet potato and water.

We're going to stick with sweet potato another week then maybe try the dreaded peas

trina, i have this mental picture of you getting "attacked" by elana with her hands all covered in orange mush, trying to "jump" on you, and sorry, but it's soooooo funny and cute i keep laughing !. i know i should feel sorry for you (and the amount of dirty washing you must have), but it just sounds like a lot of fun to me !.

Mig - you're not far off - have you ever made farex and sweet potato - it's gross (to me Nick tells me it's nice) and it has to be in this not quite soup not quite solid form and ends up being really sticky. The very amusing thing is when she decides to suck her thumb while waiting for the next spoon - and then wipe her hands on the closest thing - oh wait that's me - very messy

Dharm - *shrugs* sometime after we get the difficult vegetables out of the way - we're going for more then a week on everything just to be safe -- Nick's got an acquired allergy to shellfish -- which sux I haven't had prawns for 3years.
And his 6 year old sister is allergic to something but noone knows what so she's off all dairy, fruits & vegetables
I really just want to be able to give her stuff though -- like crackers or jam donuts or cocoa pops or steak -- stuff she see's me eating and holds her hands out for.

Haha I know I shouldn't be laughing but that is just so cute! Maddy Mae is exactly the same, she's all over the place, and it just sort of happened, one day she was sitting still and now there's no stopping her, she especially likes remote controls, we can move them as far away as possible from her, and she'll just shuffle that little bum all the way over there! She'll eat anything, she has a great appetite, but she's not gaining much weight, it's a little worrying! I hope Elana's veg eating goes ok!

well, we have been lately talking about adoption, as we can't have our own, but it never seems like the right time (renovations a mess, etc). i have been helping foster animals and i am very "clucky", hehe, with bottles and "baby" animals. yet in a funny way, since we have no choice but to adpot, it has taken the whole "time" issue away. now i can spend a while longer raising my hubby

not to be personal (or too personal) mig but aren't there like age and salary requirements to adopt (which is kinda stupid because any idiot can have a baby and get the government to pay them - hey they deposited $600 in our account last week just because we had a baby)

trina, you're right. we joke that you need a license to catch a fish these days, but anyone can have a baby !. adoption agencies in australia do generally prefer younger parents, and yes, the waiting list is scarcely worth registering on for it's formidable length. we sponsor a sri-lankan child and have contributed in (very )small ways to his community when we could. we got more than enough reward from his letters and photos, but recently the administrators of the aid program told me that we would have a very good chance of inter-country adoption because of our demonstrated commitment to the care of children. i cannot tell you how wonderful that made me feel. the immediate "need" was lifted and we plan to joyfully go that way when the time comes.
