Future Metaverse idea

With a future Metaverse I think Empires should have two restrictions.

1) Size of an Empire limited to 20 Max

2) Inactive no submission for 3 months a player is automatically removed.

What you think ?

I like number 2. My idea was to designate active and inactive and have option to filter out the inactives when you sort.

Why would you want to limit number of active players in an empire.

1)no, let empires decide
2)no, let empires decide

I think tech was meaning remove them from the meta all together not just the empire. Clean the dead wood out of the lists so active players can see and compete against active players.

He specifically said for empires.

Oh, your right. I agree with you then, but I want at least the option to sort the inactives out of everything. Empires the player lists, total scores, everything. Who care how many players an empire had a year ago.

Limiting size of a empire would give the advantage of not allowing an empire to dominate by numbers.

Empires should also not allow to carry dead wood.

The both of you have interesting ideas. I just don't want to change the rules midstream for the current metaverse. These should be seriously considered for the GCII metaverse however.

would like the meta to run like a sports league.

1. reset every year, with medals dished out for that year
2. a set limit of empire players, the 'team' (say tech's 20) contribute to the score or 'play', the rest of the players in the empire compete to get into the 'team', or if unhappy, move to another empire.

this has the advantage of a periodic reset with a recruitment or 'transfer' phase - swapping empires etc. The establishment of a long term record ie 2003 champion etc. Levels the playing field by only counting the top 20 scores (or not, the emperor may decide to 'carry' a player) in each empire - encourages competition and movement.

There is NO need to WEED out the Inactive players... they are already penalized by reducing scores on recalc.. (which is why I'd like to see forced recalcs on those who arn't active on a regular period.. I myself would like to see it done every day.. others have suggested once a week) If this was done then they would soon end up dropping down the rankings..

I've now stated this in about 4 msg threads..

there in no need to reset players or the metaverse EVER unless there is proven foul play... There is also no need to limit the number of players in any empire.. as 3 people can submit as many games as 50 .. most empires only really have about 3-6 players active at any one time.. some may disapear for a month or 6 at aa time then come back.. Its wrong to penalise people and empires who decide to keep inactive players..
Empires who keep inactive players are really suffering a loss as it is.. as their scores drop with the inactive players.. and then the active players need to make up for the loss of the inactive players penaltys.. So in reality there is never any need to reset anything..

Stardock has done an excelent scorring system.. to promote regular submition of games.. catering for all.. and even those who do drop out.. As i've said before.. you could always start your own ladders using info submitted to the metaverse that is if you don't like Stardock's scoring system...

So can we Please Find Something else to talk about.. If you still want to talk about the way the metaverse scorring.. then at least PLEASE keep it in the same thread instead of starting new ones every 4 or so days... just because you don't agree with whats being said in it... ALL views are valid.. and all your doing is pissing people off when new msgs keep getting started on the same subject.. as people feel that they need to re-post their views in the new msg thread or that they will get lost... Respect those who have made their opinions public.. and keep similar questions/suggestions in the same threads..

There scores don't get recalc unless they have played over a year is what I thought was determined. I don't see how adding a sort option would change the meta mid stream. I just want a filter in the data base so people can just look at active players and scores if they wish. No change in offical standing, medals or anything else. Just would like to be able to look at active player and empire scores excluding inactive players if I so wish. An option on the sort menu is all.

I think techs comments were to do with empires only so I probably took the thread off topic and brought us back to the old topic.

If you did that would it be hard to add a filter that would take out all the players who have not submitted a game for 30 days and then also recalculate empire scores just with actives using the official meta scoring system.

Over the past 14 days (well since I suggested the daily recalc) I've only submitted 2 games and my score has changed at least 4 times during that perion .. So I believe that the metaverse is recalcing regularly..

Sorry.. I didn't realise that you were just after another filter.. As i've stated in another thread there are bugs in the filters that need to be addressed to.. so I agree another filter could be usefull.. I'm all for configurability.. but where do you draw the line.. how much work do you want the server to have to handle.. don't forget that there are 100's of players and if everyone wanted to use a different filter then the server might not be able to cope with processing requests.. even at the moment I get times where the server times out on generating a page..

If you want something bad evough then there is alweays a way to achieve your goal's .. "there is no such word as cant" I've been told that all my live and its what i believe.. as a handicaped person I've always found ways of doing things that have been said cant be done.. ;)

it wouldn't be all that hard to setup a ladder to be updated daily (eg: the raw scores.. the statbot.) it has been done.. its simply a matter of how badly you want a certian feature.. and wether its worthwhile spending time to develope it..

You fit the pattern. You have games from July 03. I wish SD would come out and make an announcement on just what they are doing with the recalcs.

Well, there are exceptions to people suffering recalcs. Not all who should be are being recalculated. Look at Major D. He has remained static, and even advanced, for 3 months withoug a submission.

This is why I've stated that ALL players should be recalced everyday.. this way no-one would get missed... the metaverse is an untidy place.. lots of anomolies out there.. LOL ..
