Backstory!

Actually there is surprisingly little written about the other races, I guess this is due to the customization factor... Being able to change a races character from being totally evil to lovey-dovey within game sorta puts the dirty on giving them a slave-trading master-race type history...

However there are some defaults, the Drengin are EVIL (even if when u set there slider to 'good' they come up with such messages as 'we're really quite cuddly') I guess there is huge potential in scope for a backstory, However perhaps the best way to implement a back-story will be to make a full fleshed MOD for the game, with custom race titles and more applicable in game text regarding the back-story you set-up...

It sounds like the potential for modding the game is pretty impressive and fairly easy at a 'renaming' level... making credible MODs with fleshed out backstories will be part of the fun of GALCIV I'm thinking.

Ok, but can anyone give me a list of minor races and the info about them? Also, what are the space monsters and do they have anything to do with the precursor?

From hints Brad has dropped, there is already quite an extensive back story sitting around, waiting to be organized and released. I'd wait to see what he chooses to do with it before beginning any fan fiction.

I'll be writing more on the races soon. Just haven't had a chance.

BTW, where is the "deep, immersive story line" that the box text talks of? After three games, I haven't found any. Should I just have researched more of the tech tree?

Mr. Yeah, not sure if you've seen this yet but go to the Encyclopedia hyperlink from galciv.com you'll find a section titled 'About the Galaxy'. It's got something about the Yor, Altarian Republic and a brief history of the galaxy.

The thing I'm really wondering about is the minor races.

The minor races are randomized with their personalities. They are my least favorite part of the game. Their names are obviously named after people from the office, and their flavor text is not very...um, likely?

I am working on renaming all Minor races and their descripts.

You can find their flavor texts in the english.str file. If you want MY flavor texts, I'll be happy to provide them

What IS missing is the ability to name the minor powers that start the game on the map. They have the names "Alexians, Scottlingas, Carinoids, etc." There is no way to rename them, as they don't appear in the english.str file. I did rewrite their descriptions.

It does seem like parts of the story are kind of missing from some of the events that pop up, but Brad has said before he is looking to expand on that eventually. Very cool stuff, I'm looking forward to it.

I also have the same question. I like this game a lot, but it feels like Civ 3 in space. I mean, I am on a small map, but I am not sure I have experienced any kind of great story line. Just lots of random events...
