Bonus to trade from starbase question

Does the bonus you get to your trade from certain starbase modules only apply when the little ship is in the same sector as the starbase? Or does it apply as long as the little ship has to pass through that point at some time along its route? I am aware that the little ship is only representative of the route, and is not the actual transfer of goods, therefore the question.

Should be if the freighter passes through. Because building starbases along the flight path will increase that with the right modules.

At least that's what I've seen said.

I've got another, somewhat related question. Seeing as how starbases benefits stack, Is there any benifit to build starbases in each sector along your trade route, as opposed to simply building multiple starbases all in one sector (say the one with your source planet)?

I think you're correct. When the little freighter passes thru the sector with the starbase you get the bonus during that turn. It should be visible in the tradescreen. The money you make on one route should change.

I'd like to know the answer to Padlock's question:

"Seeing as how starbases benefits stack, Is there any benifit to build starbases in each sector along your trade route, as opposed to simply building multiple starbases all in one sector (say the one with your source planet)?"

My opinion: building starbases on multiple sectors does not give any more advantage (trade wise) than building it all in one sector except it offers flexibility (i.e., other trade routes going through a certain sector).

Of course there are other benefits to building starbases in multiple sectors such as cultural influence and military bonuses...

I thought the bonus was for them going through the sector, which would indicate transience.
If it just means that the trade route has to contact that sector at some point, it is indeed different.
But I thought Frogboy mentioned in one of his games that he wanted to put starbases along the path of the freighter to improve benefits from it...

There it is, Mirror Universe game example:

Next step, where are my trade routes? Ideally I want a trade route that is a straight line so that I can build star bases. Here's the deal, in GalCiv, when you make a trade route with your freighter, a trade ship travels back and forth. The money you get each turn depends on how far along on that route. But you can also increase that amount by having star bases in the sectors those trade ships travel. Not just any star base but ones with trade centers and such added to them. If you do this enough, you can greatly increase your trade revenue. So this is what I plan to do: Build a straight line of star bases between Earth and the Yor home world where the trade ships travel and add tons of trade modifying modules to them. This will increase my trade with the Yor and make them more likely to want to be an ally.

I believe I read somewhere that you get more money the further the mini-freighter is away from your planet.

If that's the case, in order to maximise trade income, it would make the most sense to build all your trade enhancing starbases in the sector closest to the destinatioin planet, rather then all along the trade route. You may not get a boost every turn, but it should average out to be much higher.

Also is it only your trade ships that rieceve the starship bonus or any other nation trading with you as their ships pass through your starship sectors?
But it also says that the ships trade is worth less the closer it gets to your planet and worth more the farther it travels to another planet. So what is the mechanics as a freighter enters a sector as far as calculation of trade?

Trade is calculated on a per turn basis it seems.Ive seen a freighter move from one sector to the other where the sector it was going to had starbase with trade modules. It seemed to give a percentage of trade based on the value of one sector and the sector it was going into. After the freighter was fully in the trade enhanced sector,it riecieved the full value of the trade plus the starbase upgrades. Also as it got close to the home planet the trade
value went to its lowest value.

The problem I see with building strings of trade star bases along a trade route, is that a freighter takes different routes to the target system, and homewards. It's this way because on autopilot ships first move diagonally until they can travel horizontally/vertically to their destination.
If I'm right, doesn't this make the star bases inefficient/rather worthless?
