Drengin.net is about to die. Long live Drengin.net!

Tomorrow Drengin.net dies. In its place is TotalGaming.net which is essentially Drengin.net + third party games.  Instead of only Stardock games being on the gaming network, third party games get added as well.

And if you already have a Drengin.net subscription, you are automatically upgraded to TotalGaming.net free of charge.

We're launching it with 3 good games: Disciples II: Ultimate Edition (we took all the Disciples II and expansion packs and merged them together to create a new game), Orb, and Celtic Kings.

Then we're going to add a new game each month for the rest of the year as we prepare our 2005 line up of games.

We're in the process of transitioning now to it. The upgrade price from GalCiv to TotalGaming.net is $60 but given how much stuff you get, that's quite a good deal (especially since the GalCiv II betas will start showing up in January).

Don't worry my internet disconnected and I lost my download... seems my main problem is the canceling of a download should it lose connection.

I have a 56 K modem and have downloaded both ORB and celtic kings in chunks.

I usually set it up to download over night, get about 125 MB in a night, cancel the download manually in the morning, close everything down and then restart SDC that following evening before bed, then I click install for the one I had started the night before and voila, it picks up where it left off.

The only time I had a problem with a restart and loss of a chunk was when SDC updated itself so I guess I would recommend cancelling any SDC upgrades if you are in the midst of downloading chunks of one of the games.

Still haven't attempted to start downloading disciples 2 though...should take me a good 10 nights to get that behemoth. :sniff!:

Unfortunately mate, I have a 56 modem and twice it allowed me to resume, the third time, it started from scratch... I was not impressed!!!Anyone else suffering under the evil modem?

Same happened to me.

I did a test cancel (1% Disciple II) and then restarted SDC and everthing worked fine.

I then left the modem (evil) to its own devices for two hours and when I came back it had a download error and lost everything (5% downloaded).

I had the latestest SDC as I updated before I started the downloading. Managed to get The Political Machine though.

Well I just finished redownloading all the stardock games without problems. That includes things like Galactic Civs Multimedia (over 300 megabytes). So its only the new downloads I'm having problems with..

When downloading the stardock games individual files are downloaded... if it cancels only the last file is lost and needs to be redownloaded. In another words, it correctly resumes but you need to redownload half downloaded file when it canceled from scratch.

The new games on the other hand seem to be downloading a one big file...? and the resume doesn't always seem to work, it cancels and resumes from the last file (there is only one file - the big file!). Thats is my take on whats happening anyway... might be wrong, but it fits the what I've experienced.

I didn't get to edit this in time sorry, this isn't always the case for Stardock games but things like GC, GC mutimedia, Political Machine etc it is... big 'game components' downloaded a file at a time instead of at once in a big zip.

I had 88% of Disciple II downloaded but when I went to resume it restarted at zero. Needless to say I had a few choice words for the current system. Not all of us have high speed connections that can download those outrageously huge files in a reasonable time. Unless the downloads are broken up into smaller chunks and the download manager is improved, I would say don't waste your time. :(

I think I read in another thread that totalgaming was going to have a new release every month or something like that. Any chance that we could have a schedule of the next 2-3 months? Not only would it be very interesting to us who already have it, I think it would help sell new subscriptions.

Add me to the list of 56K people who are frustrated over the Disciples II download size. Although, as previously stated I was able to download ORB and Celtic Kings in chunks with no resets, my most recent attempt to download Disciples II had me starting over after I had reached 150 MB.

Perhaps to get more attention, a new thread should be started regarding this issue in a more relevant forum.

Found this thread over on the totalgaming.net forum. http://totalgaming.stardock.com/forums.asp?MID=139&CMID=139&AID=21887
