Tired of this

Wow....the multiplayer fails on so many levels....

1. I can't host any games(and don't tell me to open my ports,i've done that a hundred times)
2. I can't join someone else's games(some i can join)
3. everytime i kill the goddamn host, the game goes to that migrating crap, and i'm forced to quit the game because it just stays there.
4. The game drops constantly
5. Players drop constantly

These things, make me wanna get the disk, break it in half and eat it. I'm tired of playing games i can't win, or can't even get into.

1. The multiplayer is amazing! I haven't had one iota of difficulty, neither have those who have learned from all of the information available to this community regarding multiplayer config.

btw...I've just posted a new more SINS-specific guide to my stickied thread in the "technical" thread, give it a read.

2. Something is blocking traffic somewhere, plain and simple (either at your end, or at the host)

3. Yes, if the HOST drops the game tries to migrate the other players to another "suitable host" (ie. configured properly) if it can't find one, then it craps out!

I would suggest to play with more reliable people. The few games that I've actually had time to play since release (I've hosted many, just not played in many :) ) have been immensely satisfying.

Last of all, take a deep breath. You had to "learn" how to drive a vehicle, and even after knowing HOW you still must follow the "rules of the road". Networking/Internet gaming are exactly the same. Learn how, then "follow the rules" and you'll have far less gaming "issues".  :D

thanks,

OK the hosting part I wont even comment on if you know how to port forward and such. However, I definitely agree with you about killing the host.

It is supposed to look for the next host able player and switch host over to them, and I can and do host fine. However every time I join a game and the host dies, the game dies...it tries to switch host over to me, heck it even goes from Migrating to OK, but it just stays there frozen with everyone reading OK and nothing working.

I'm tired of playing games i can't win,

Oh No! There isn't an abundance of exploits and overpowered units! What ever shall I do?

This game uses Peer 2 Peer technology. So the same rules apply: You're behind a router and/or wireless router, and you've forgotten to create a static external IP for port forwarding.

Everything else is just speculation, and or circumstance based. So I'm not even going to touch #3 to #5.

I can definitely relate on the hosting...are you in a dorm or apartment complex by chance? A lot of "institutional" LAN connections like those providing internet access to large buildings can't support SOASE, because there's some kinda hardware problem that interferes with peer-to-peer connections. Other games have some kinda internal system that forwards the game data to all the right ports without much user help. Compared to these products *in terms of MP reliability* SOASE seems inferior. But don't give up on MP.

Pop on down to the Multiplayer Organizer forum, and see if you can't join a scheduled game. If I were you, I would also voice your concern in each feed back thread you can.

While I got a reply from Stardock saying they won't be able to change the peer-to-peer system, I'm hoping they might 1) refine the code to eliminate the other problems you mentioned or 2) design a downloadable match-making program/service that interfaces with LAN networks like GPGNET, ESO, Blizzard, GameSpy, etc. but allows you to make a peer-to-peer connection by automatically opening and forwarding to the ports that are hardwired to forward to your IP addresss within the LAN without having to call up the tech guy and have him change the LAN configuration each time you want to play the game.

@ Scourge012

You're talking about NAT-T (Nat-traversal) type connections, that are allowed to "tunnel through/over" certain hardware devices such as (routers/hardware firewalls). It is my understanding that IronClad are working on certain multiplayer enhancements. I'm sure the devs (who have been so very attentive throughout) will continue to keep the community in the loop regarding upcoming updates.

Patience is the key here!  :D  In the meantime, read my guides (I have a new one out...check the sticky in the technical forum) and happy playing/hosting!

Hey, I'm willing to wait for better playability...but for right now, I'm just playing SP. It's still very frustrating to wait, ya know. By "enhancements" do you mean something that might work with some common LAN connections?

By the way, Monk. Your guides are well-written and helpful!

The best solution - Someone create a new forum and start a league that supports hamachi. Arranged matches and a point system to defeat ICO/Stardock's inferior multiplayer design until they catch up. Everyone wins.

Well, don´t use routers, routers are bad, mkay. I tried to open ports for SupCom and it didn't work even though I had them open on my Router. Even got a "specialist" to help, but no good. Maybe you have a old model? OR maybe you don´t even have a router at all? ^^

Routers are bad?!? :SURPRISED:

I'd double check to make sure your PC hasn't been infected or rootkitted. That'll slow down your Internet connection to a crawl.

External ?! My router requires the internal IP address in its port-forwarding screen : the one you get when you execute start\run\cmd > ipconfig.

Can anybody clarify this technical point : I'm confused -- and am not an expert.

@CyberMage

Please download and read my latest guide which I've linked-to from my "how-to" sticky in the "technical" thread. I believe the link is in POST #66 (page 2)

I just don't want to keep repeating myself in various threads. My newest guide will explain/answer all of your questions.

Abandoning ICO is liable to have a more negative effect on any potential for change, since various things like matchmaking and ladders would require a certain minimum player base. And if the player base is all elsewhere, the devs have no way to know whether their changes will be worth doing.

No where near the best solution by a far cry. You really should not advocate moving a product away from the developers. Do you have any idea about what you are talking about from an administrative and support side? Or are you just hoping someone else will bust their ass to follow such a crazy idea? So just perish the thought as it would be futile at best and a grossly ignorant idea in principle.

ICO is a new system and as such it will have growing pains. The Devs have been very upfront about this so things some time. BattleNet took a long time get "up-to-snuff" as the expressions goes.

The inherent benefits of having a totally custom system developed by the creators and franchise owners should never be discounted or even advocated unless given just cause. Frankly I have not seen anything that even comes close to warranting such an action.

Possibility: Kill Norton Anti-Virus. That suite of programs is *proven* to corrupt networking files.

You must remove Norton to regain network functionality. I use McAfee instead, now that I know...
