ran's strategy for large or huge maps

ok if you have ever played me in a 5v5 which most of y'all have not. This is how i play i research Fleet supple and command (fleet logistics) first get 1 capital ship ( you need civic research because the military research is not needed till later). Then take one of the planets near your position. once the research for the 2nd command ship is complete build it (it dosnt matter which ship you build just as long as you have 2 capital ships).
Basically take as many planets near your home world. Keep Building civic research till you can research long jumps. research command after that and keep researching civic stuff like trade. If you last long you could get up to 16 capital ships with in 2 hours and 30 mins

I find it advisable to build up economics and do your best to make friends with your immediate neighbor. When you get an economic powerhouse going betray your name, take the galaxy, and station fleets at the Star and wormholes to choke out enemies entering for an offensive.

At that point finish up your research as fast as possible, build up a fleet, and take it on the offensive.

Once you have the immediate Galaxy it's a synch to choke and dominate.

In a 5v5 you get a capital ship, grab tons of planets, spam frigates, (as TEC) spam trade centers and use the resources to get a ton of other things.

heh I dont know about getting 2 capital ships so early :) In a bigger game your economy should be #1 priority.

My problem on huge maps is the fleet limit.

Once you gain enough planets (say 12-15) and you have reached you fleet cap, its really hard to defend all of your planets because you dont have enough ships to do it.

What usually winds up happening is you get attacked on two fronts by two different enemies with their *entire* fleet, while your fleet is split in two trying to defend the two assaults and is outnumbered on both fronts.
