Hosting game- other players unable to join firewall/router problems

We just got the game and my friend and i want to play together. Alas it gives this messege saying niether of us are able to host because of firewall settings. i have no firewalls active. my router included. at this point i have DMZ enabled even though i know how to forward 6112 alone. and still have the problem.

any ideas?

Have you checked if your router is blocking any ports at all? Sometimes under a different option to firewall options, on my router it's under a different option and i end up having to manually reset things alot of the time, despite it technically not being on the firewall option.

The 'people may not be able to join your game' message seems to appear sometimes when there's no actual problem. Have you tried seeing if people can join your game despite it?

My friend and I just played a game where I was getting that 'people may not be able to join your game' and it worked fine. I don't know why this message was being displayed.

To quote myself from my post in the "technical" forum:

quoting myself from post #30 in the stickied thread:
@ EVERYONE - IMPORTANT

I have seen that message from IronClad "...Most people will not be able to join your game...." everytime I've hosted since the first 2 or three games I hosted (and I haven't changed anything on my end). The games I host are still able to be joined by EVERYONE and everything works like a charm! What this means is, that IronClad have intruduced a "connection checking" method on their end which takes into consideration WAN ping, IDENT (maybe), open ports, etc. If you fail even one of those, their message pops up. While ping and ident are an easy way to see if a host is online or not, they're not required at all for the actual "connection process".

To re-cap, seeing that message from IronClad doesn't at all mean that it won't work. Ever since they setup their "connection-testing" I've been getting that message as well. I don't allow WAN ping or IDENT so I'm assuming that's why my setup "fails". In any case, I am able (and have many times now) to HOST without any issues whatsoever!

thanks for replies..

seems this was in fact the case, that even though i get the messege i can still participate in games. when i made the post friend had not done port forwarding and once he did everything seems to work ok. we both still get the warning though.

anyway thanks again

Monk is correct. The check isn't perfect. It's meant as a warning and some people with the warning can host just fine.

The problem with having a warning like that (and I get it every time as well), is that the warning becomes superfluous and pointless. The warning should only come up if you can't actually host a game. Otherwise, how am I to know whether the warning is right or not?
