new to blogging

Hi everyone, I am new to blogging but would like to learn how to do it.
What is the best way to become proficient?
For example if I want to put an image in my blog how do I do this?

Thanks for any help

Welcome to JU. Blogging is just writing. Write what you feel like sriting about.

A good start would be to read what others have written and the comments as well. You can write about pretty much anything you want. If you want others to read it, make sure it has an interesting title and is written so as to keep someone's attention.

As for images, can't really help much there as I don't use them. Somebody will be able to help. Also, you can find an article that contains images and simply look at the html code for that article. They are all basically just html. I suspect you'll have to load the image on a webpage or web server directory someplace and make a reference to it from your article just like you would when writing a web page. There may be a simpler way, but I haven't bothered to learn it

Write, have fun, read. I'm sure there will be plenty of us here to make fun of whatever you write Just kidding, I look forward to reading your articles.

H judge,
Here are some tips I have picked up some worked out myself and some from others more experienced:

1. To add pictures go to this article by imajinit
Link

2. To make a favourites list
- click on my account at top right
- at the top right of that screen you should see the My site section and one of the options should be 'Manage Site Custom Links' click the circle next to that and then go up and click edit
- on the new page scroll down and fill in the fields:
Section heading can either be your own words or you can select my links or links
fill in the title with whatever you want it to appear as
copy the url from the website you want to go to
and click 'add link'

A word of warning. Once you have added or edited links and then get out the 'Manage Site Custom Links' seems to disappear when you next go into my account. The only way I have worked out how to get it back is to log completely out of the site and then go back in.

3. When you insert a link using the Link button, and you want to Change it to something meaningful rather than Link (this one is care of imajinit.)
- Add your link into your article and hit the submit article button
- When it finally adds it, edit the article and where the link is you should see something like:
href="http://gerry-attrick.joeuser.com/editpost.asp?AID=17437">Link
- change Link to whatever you like e.g.
href="http://gerry-attrick.joeuser.com/editpost.asp?AID=17437">whoisthisidiot
and re submit
- the new text you put in will appear as the link.

I really have to say - out of all the online communities that I have ever seen (it isn't that many) JU is full of some of the most welcoming and friendly people imaginable... Did Jerry have to take the time to help the n00b? no!!! but he did, because he is a friendly person!

As the others have said Judge, and I am sure their will be many more to come - happy blogging!

out of interest - how did you find JU judge?

BAM!!!

Welcome. Like Muggaz said, I was always curious as to how we all found Joeuser. How did you find it, Muggaz? I was trying to find a poem or lyrics to match my mood one day earlier this year (on google) and on of Anne's (tangledwishes) articles came up.

Anywho, have fun, but a word or warning, this can become an addiction. Really, most of us are addicted to it now. Oh, and watch out for Sir Peter. Don't take him seriously and it will all work out okay.

Thank you for all the replies!
Thank you for those who went to the trouble to take some time and help also.
Hopefully with a bit of work I can get profficient at blogging.

I found joe user with google. I was not particularly looking for blogging at the time but had it in the back of my mind. So when I checked out the site I soon realised it would probably be a good place to get involved at.
