Windows Live/LAN

I noticed that on the front of the box it says "Games for Windows" which in my experience means it uses Windows Live for multiplayer. Having UaW (Universe at War) I would have to say WL makes SoE look good. Having to pay a monthly fee to unlock all modes of multiplayer was a great way to piss off a lot of people. So my question is does Sins actually use Windows Live and if it does are you limited with a basic subscription (free sub).

As far as LAN goes UaW has a limiter for 30ms I believe(could be lower), where if the ping is above 30ms then the game will not appear on the session screen. My other question would be is there a ping limiter for LAN games. Since when ever I goto a LAN party or I host one I use a wireless connection, since both myself and my friends don't want 20 25ft CAT-5 cables zig-zagging everywhere across the room. While using a wireless network I can never achieve a stable ping under 30ms.

If these questions are already answered in another thread, link away. I looked through the Multiplayer forums and I could not find anything. Thanks for your replys in advance.

I'm pretty sure the game has its own game browser and it does not use Windows Live. I have used many "Games for Windows" branded games that do not support Windows Live. In fact the only one that I have is Halo 2.

I've found the same thing, and also only have Halo 2 on Windows Live.
I think IC and Stardock would make sure about making their own browser here :P They've always shown such commitment to their games (not that companies allowing Windows Live or any other such browsers don't do this).

If a Games for Windows game uses Live, there is a different branding that includes the Live brand mark. Sins does not use Windows Live for multiplayer and instead uses Ironclad Online (ICO) which is completely free.

Excellent news, thanks for clearing that up.

I honestly don't how know how people keep assuming every game that has Games for Windows marked on it means it uses Windows Live...

I must have at least 5 or so games with the Games for Windows marking on the box, none of which use Windows Live.

Same here phazon, 99% of games I buy have the silly little 'Games for Windows' thing on them, I have yet to buy one with Windows Live.
