Any of the programs mentioned can be useful if you remember not to 'let them do all the work' and put in some effort to make something not only original but that shows some imagination.

That would be so sick it's almost funny.

Any image that can fit properly as a desktop background is a wallpaper. And if it looks fly , it is fly, PERIOD

Walls are judged by mods, mods use different rules as to what makes a good wall. Something you think is good may not look good to the mod.
I have had stuff make it on the site that looked somewhat good and stuff that did look good to me didn't make the cut.
Just because you render doesn't make it good enough for the site.
You will see once you start to post what is good enough for this site and what isn't.
Good Luck from someone who has been there.
We have people who really do a good job here and they are "pros" as you can see.

Does that mean I can't post a Bryce render as a wallpaper?? I've started on a wallpaper that I would eventually like to turn into an entire skin and theme, but if Bryce renders are a no no ... then I'll stop now.

Well, no, there's no need to quit working on your theme.

Bryce itself is an ok product in the right hands. It's just that it has just been (mis)used to create the same thing a billion times over and the mere mention of the name makes some people's skin crawl.

Keep at it. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Oh, you mean the dreaded shiny sphere floating over water?? I did a few of those when I first started out, but I've moved beyond that now.
