The Olympian Gods

Beware Their Wrath

Welcome mortal to Mount Olympus, home of the gods. I, Zeus, have allowed you to journey here to prove your worth and to see if you shall be allowed to join us in the control of the universe.

If you manage to show that you are worthy by achieving 25 victorious battles or 100,000 cumulative points than we have decreed that we will bestow upon you the Glorious Title of Senator.

Let all those that are in our presence tremble and despair. We threw down the mighty Titans and will Prevail in All our Doings.

Some Important Things to Know About This Empire

One doesn't need to be one of the Olympian gods, any character is fine!

This is an Open empire, so anyone can join. I will try to keep up with who is joining so I can send a friendly hello.

Hard work and perseverance pay off. I will award those that accomplish such tasks with a Senator position.

I think it is important and my duty to help new players and learn from veteran players. I promise that this empire is here for the player!

A Little About Your Emperor

SILVERBEACHER (Main Character: Zeus)

Born and raised in Michigan, Silverbeacher, or Silver as he is commonly called, is a college student at Purdue University in Indiana where he is majoring in Political Science and Pre-Law.

He first came into contact with the Galactic Civilization Universe in the summer of 2003, with the first game in the series. He found the game very enjoyable but never did partake in the original Metaverse. A few years later he came across the sequel, Dread Lords, at a local Best Buy, and began trying out the new and improved game.

At first, he never visited the website or the Metaverse, but one day, while seeking answers, he hopped onto the GalCiv2 website and the rest as they say is history.

Almost immediately interested in the Metaverse, he began looking for an empire to join, originally checking out both the Galactic Diplomats and the High Command Hegemony. It was in the threads of the HCH that he came across Neilo and MarshallONeil. Neilo had only recently left the HCH-which had become a very quiet remnant of its former glory-and had formed the Tyranny of Evil.

In the summer of 2007, Silver joined the Tyranny-or ToE as it is often referred to as. Meanwhile, Neilo, had also been appointed the "leader" of a new way of competing against other MV players, the Metaverse League. Silver originally sat out of the MVL, fearing that he was not a good enough player to compete alongside such game greats as MottiKhan and Mumblefratz, but eventually did decide to join in the middle of the third round, where he even managed to get a speed bonus point for his team.

Due to the rapid growth of the MVL, a new team was needed for Round 4, and Silver gladly submitted his name to be the new captain of this team. With this, Team E-or more properly, The Eternal Villainy-, was founded.

Silver had captained the Villainy for three rounds when Commissioner, and fellow Villainy teammate, Neilo, decided to step down from his position as Commissioner of the MVL. At the request of Neilo and others, Silver accepted the nomination to be the new Commissioner of the MVL. After a close, but friendly, election, Silver was named the new "Commish" and Round 7 of the MVL was his first round under his 'leadership'.

It was also at this time that Silver decided to form his own empire, which he named the Olympian Gods. For a while, Silver remained a member of both the ToE and the Olympian Gods but eventually, decided that he wanted to focus all his attention on the MVL and Olympian Gods and so said goodbye to his Tyranny brothers to venture out on his own.

And that is how we say, is that.

One empire is enough for me, but can I be Eris anyway?

If so, I have a prize for the best Olympian god in the empire: a golden apple! You will have to decide amongst yourselves who deserves it the most.

OK, go.

hmmm, well I don't want a Greek golden apple cuz I'll prolly forget to thank Aphrodite and be turned into a lion. Now a Norse golden apple would be awesome, they give immortal life (the Norse gods were mortal)

so I switched us to Open Status to help ease the integration process, ever little bit helps I spose

well, I added a few more battle scars tonight. I should have retaken the #2 spot on the AltMeta Mil Solar ranking board also, cuz I was just below Saladin Al Bashir on there.

and oh yeah, so i finally earned my senatorship. i can no longer be called a hypocrite

Oops. A little too much wine and I post an MVL round 6 eligible game with my Dionysus character. That shouldn't matter if I decide to use that game though. Right?

no thats ok, just make a point of it in the Round 6 thread; it doesn't actually affect the game one way or another. It just makes it easier to do all the checks and helps stop people going back and playing for score after the first submission and messing with results.

agh I have to get in 30!!! games this weekend. (25 to get my 50 battles icon, and 30 for the 50 victory medallion). This would be an issue if it wasn't for the fact that there is a foot of snow outside and the 'Stang is rear-wheel drive and not made for this weather.

We here in Toronto are getting blasted with snow as well. I left work early and just got home. A 15 minute drive took an hour, but my little Sunfire made it through. Got a 6 pack in the fridge and will be chillaxing and gaming tonight.

sounds awesome. I just finished a game (they take an average of 30-40 minutes each) and will get a few more in before i head over to the co-rec to lift and then Atlantis is on at 10. And since my birthday is on Monday but I have class (and an exam first thing) I plan on celebrating tonight and tomorrow.

I don't mind the snow since we have a Durango and an F250 Ford pickup, but it is the damn ice that I hate. I've never been anywhere where it will rain during the middle of winter (makes the driving pretty interesting even with 4 wheeel drive). I understand where your coming from SB about driving in the snow with only rear wheel drive. When I got out of the Army we moved to Colorado for about 4 years and all we had to drive were my wives Pontiac Grand Am (which she drove to work) and my Camaro. I would have to drive the IROC 20 miles to work and 20 miles back home in the snow. Talk about fun!! What made it even funner is the fact my IROC has monster torque and a racing shift kit in the tranny. It would shift so damn hard that the rear tires would try to shoot the car sideways. Man I used to dread driving in the rain or snow. Oh well I don't have to worry about that at the moment since I blew the motor up and it's sitting in Arizona waiting for me to resurrect it. But I can tell you this when I get it running again it's gonna be a summer time only car (especially since I plan on building an even more powerful motor with a supercharger)!

Oh yeah, and a happy early birthday to SB!!! My birthday is on the 18th but I'm gonna be on call that day (meaning I have to watch the computer all night making sure none of our cell sites go down). Being that I don't have to drive anywhere I can down a couple of beers, but if I drink too many I might do something crazy that'll cause all our sites to drop!! HAHA! I've been known to do some pretty crazy stuff when I'm juiced up so I'll probably just have a few and spend the night playing games.

Well, good job! :CONGRAT: Motti did say he was gonna get a 150K game in but at that game rate... well, you've got nothing to worry about. But be warned, Alcadeias has broken into third place and is just one or two games away from 2nd.

One thing I wanna ask, since your character has so many games, how much overall score increase does your character receive for each game in the official MV?

Hey Silverbeacher, dont know how much you are interested in the history of the Olympian Gods, but this article was in the NY Times today: article

the link doesn't work but I found the article anyhow :-)

Interesting, but not wholly surprising. There have been many locations throughout the world that were important or sacred to ancient and prehistoric religions and cultures and then later converted for use for a later religion.

There are even some "modern" examples, such as the Pantheon in Rome is now a Catholic church, and the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul first as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral, then a Muslim mosque, and finally a cultural museum.

@Firebender: due to the way the actual MV calculates scores, I am actually "penalized" for submitting many games. I always get some points from each game, but it drops FAST. By the time i hit only my 50th game I am getting only 20% of its value added to my overall score. Add to this that the incoming score is or will be lower than the degradation (until it hits 65%). So....eventually even my 50th game where I get 20% of my score, will drop by another 35% of its value.

Since most of my games are roughly 10,000pts. This means I will get 2000pts added to my overall score for my 50th game. After a period of time that will degrade further to only 1300 pts.

I do not know where the lowest value is for a new game. To be of actual value I would need it to be at least 20% of the value (which is reached at 50 games) but if it continues to lower or bottoms at 1%, this means my 1000th game would be worth only 100 points to my overall score and would degrade to only 65 points.

Now, again, I don't actually know the lowest percentage value, as I've only been able to find statistics up to 50 games (partly because no one has played enough to calculate it).

I've made the assumption that it bottoms out at 20%, which after degradation, at 1000 games, will give me a MV score of roughly 1.35 million [(950 * 10000 * .2 *.65)+100,000]

If it drops to 1%, my final score can be as low as 160,000-200,000pts. That would really suck to be honest because that means I could have achieved a higher MV score with ONE larger map as compared to ONE THOUSAND tiny maps.

From my experience with my main character Devilcat, it seems to me that there is no further score penalty below 20% after 50 games. I seem to always gain from 10-12k for the type of game I typically play with that character. Once I get some more RAM, I'll probably up the map size so I can increase faster.

Ah, I see a worthy adversary lurking in the Alt. OK, maybe not so much lurking as passing me up.   :CONGRAT:

Good luck on making it to the 1000 mark.  :HOT:

I hear ya, just got my monthly degradation in the Altmeta. Down from 164.8K to 152.2K... and dropping. I might get in another 18K today.

Hey, I just noticed, the Olympians are at 10th place at the Altmeta now and moved to 18th at the official MV.

And lets not forget our newest member, Daniela Ciubuc! Welcome!

yes, welcome indeed!

yeah, if I can actually manage to find time where I'm not writing papers or studying for exams I need to get in some more games. I'm behind on my count at the moment.

also, FB, so Mumblefratz cleared up some scoring stuff for me and I could actually end up losing points once I get to my later game submissions. ha! I've been gearing up to use another character for some gigantic games, I've been trying the race out on my tiny maps first to check my racial abilities and then I'll go from there. I'm finding Super Hive with population bonuses works fairly well when you can expand enough.

anyone have some ideas on the best ways to compete with the Kzinti? I have the utmost respect for KzintiPatriarch but gosh darn, for once, I'd like to see them NOT conquering or expanding.

To be honest, the only empire that can compete with the Kzinti is the Diplomats, and well, they will weather the storm like always and still be around when GC IV or V (oh how I hope) comes out, but like the Ents of Tolkien, unless they can be awakened from their slumber, I think their hidden strength will go unnoticed.

I do have one idea, and it will sorely try my diplomatic skills, but I see it as the only way to stop this juggernaut.

Will posting a 60.9K game help? Hmmm? ;)

Cheers.

lol yes; ive been working on a giga alongside my tiny maps. Im falling behind but I had two exams this week and a paper, and of course school comes first. Should be able to catch back up now.

And oh yeah....so I declared open war on the Kzinti Empire. Hope no one minds. :D

Only a simple option has been left to those in its wake: to submit to its power or to be utterly vanquished.

Fights-With-Words speaks truly....his Delphi Oracle must have prophecised that it is our destiny to subjugate the entire galaxy. The Fanged God will devour the essence of your gods and absorb what power they have, just like all other gods before have been destroyed and consumed. It is good to see our rival has gained the courage to oppose us. It will make the hunt much more interesting.

It may be time for a new name for Fights-With-Words, so we will now call you Honorable-Doomed-Enemy. Enough talk...we have a galaxy to conquer!
