Done with RC!

Woah boy, steady! Hmmm, I have no idea what a 'packalomer' is but I'm sure its descriptive!

I feel your frustration. I used RC as a replacement for that horrible Vista start menu. RC is a valuable proggy for Vista users.

Like you, I got a little weary of my config vanishing and having to set it all up again. I quit and now use this for a start menu LINK   

All of a sudden, my RC is gone. Nothing in it at all. Then, when I start to redo it, This is how it shows the Desktop Menu. Anyone else have this curious layout? And if so, how can I fix it so it's like the Graphics Tree?

Hey messiah, I've never experienced that anomaly, but I have heard of it. Unfortunately, I don't remember the solution.



I'm ok now. A packalomer is nothing. "ratchin'-frackin'-packalomer!!" is just a substitute for words that aren't so nice.

I'll be using a little freeware proggie I found a while back called Folder Guide
It works in most right click menus.

I've adjusted the margins for that as a work around. It looks like a small bar now. Not too bad if you only have a few main categories but I'd like it to be back to normal.

had that problem, uninstalled, deleted everything, started from scratch. I still don't get what is the problem with implemementing a saving option that was asked for for years now. Nowadays I am backing it up regularly. But that can't be it... BTW, it is also useful for non-english users running iconx or anything that changes the regular desktop menu to english.

I think we all encountered the problem. It's a shame they never fix it. But in any case, I use this alternative: after setting up right click, I use a backup software called Fbackup. I back it up immediately so all my work is saved. When the problem occurs, I simply do a restore and everything is back to normal again. There's no other way to keep your valuable work saved...

Well, as RC doesn't work with 64bit, it is on hold for me nevertheless... But it is still a shame that such a tool isn't updated.

+ 1 I'm still holding off on using it again until it can back up configuration. I really like R-Click,but until then I don't consider it user friendly.

Right-click is nice - but I prefer ObjectBar...

I put an end to multiple launcher type programs on my system...

I chose one and it's ObjectBar. It's the best (for me)... it seems the more you concentrate on one, the more efficient you become...

DesktopX beats them both, hands down!

RC does work with (Vista) 64bit, just not the same way as on 32bit
(Doubleclick instead)
And yes, RC is in dire need of a serious overhaul.

PS.: it is possible to backup the menu settings. Just make a copy of 'desktopmenu.obbar'.
That's what I do. Saves me tons of time setting up the menu again.

I had the intern working on it forthe past few weeks.  Progress was made but it's not there yet.

Yeah, DesktopX is good...

but I really like to use sidebars in ObjectBar... there is so much you can do with them...

can you make "sidebars" with DesktopX...? I mean, is there a simple way to do this...?

DesktopX is not yet user-friendly enough to beat them...

I almost get the feeling I need to be a genius to make full usage of it. Regular users find it hard to do nice things like what we can download as DesktopX themes. And so you have to rely on others a lot instead of doing it yourself... It looks amazing - it really does - but it's far beyond the scope of many. Now, if I was to make a mettalic sidebar with widgets and links... for a simple user like me, it would be tedious! And it needs to reserve the edge of the screen. It's an outstanding application... but...
