Of the Korx

RaceImage06 The Korx home world was united long ago by a single corporate conglomerate. What humans might call libertarianism was the way of the Korx in its purest form. Its unregulated capitalistic system eventually allowed a single mega corporation to emerge that effectively owned all of the resources of the Korx world including the military.  As a result, technological and cultural progress stagnated for generations. Without competition, Korx society moved forward on inertia from its past achievements.

Everything is for sale in Korx society. Every resource, every service, everything one could possibly imagine -- and then some -- can be bought and sold. If there is a demand, the Korx will find a way to provide for it.  For this reason, the Korx tend to be found involved in every galactic war in some form as arms dealers and even mercenary soldiers on both sides.

You are making the Korx sound cooler thn ever. more than freight traders.

wonder if you'll be able to hire the Korx for "protection" ...

Hope the trade bug will be fixed or they will be pointless playing with or against.

Korx are libertarians  You have no idea what libertarianism is all about. And " unregulated capitalistic system " is rather anarcho-capitalism. And it means no taxes.

He knows what he's talking about, and it sounds pretty accurate. The Korx are libertarianism and capitalism taken to the utter extreme.

The only thing Draginol is guilty of is understatement.

The Korx of today are not libertarians.  They're ruled by a single corporate monopoly.  But historically, the Korx were pure capitalists -- far beyond anything attempted on Earth.  Completely unregulated. The military, police, schools, and roads were all owned by private entities and leased out to others as services.

But in time, a single corporate entity eventually acquired controlling interests in everything.

Kinda wish you could retcon the Korx and Drath back into GCIII.
And bring back the old GC1 Korx music. It's a lot better then the GC2 music.

I honestly really don't see why they couldn't continue to exist in the Sandbox mode in GC3...

Brad, were you reading Neal Stephenson when you came up with the Korx? His book Snow Crash comes readily to mind. For those who haven't read it, the society that the former U.S. has become in that book gives a good idea of how such a system might have come into being. The choice of hiring Admiral Jim's Navy to protect your gated community's coastline is one of my favorite examples.

Didn't the Korx survive DA? I specifically remember guiding the colony ship out.

Bringing a race back as a minor would be even more disappointing, given how gimped the minor races are.

That said, there could be a few surviving Korx or less likely Drath out there somewhere.

I understand the need to keep a coherent story, but you can always decide what is and isn't canon. I like the Korx a lot more then the Korath anyway.

Ok, this has now degenerated into fanboyism.

I could see the Korax being bought back as mercenaries for hire in GCIII rather than a major race with their own worlds

We have lots of time between now and then to decide the fate of the two.
