All he wants for Christmas are his 2 front teeth - literally

Well, Jake might lose his right front tooth.  It snapped off so badly that the nerve was just about exposed and, despite Dr Brent's best efforts, it's going to be touch and go whether that nerve dies and Jake keeps that tooth or not.

There wasn't any rebuilding this time, either.  He's done too much damage.  Dr Brent just patched him up the best he could, covering the exposed ends of tooth with composite filling so's that it wouldn't look AS bad.  IF the nerve dies, Jake will need an extraction and a denture until he's old enough to get an implant (when he's about 18 and his mouth is done growing).  if it lives, he's going to need root canals on both front teeth when he's 18 and will get crowns at that time.

So, he's going to have to live with a messed up smile for a while.  I've tried to tell him that it's a manly thing and that rugby players, ice hockey players and aussie football stars all have missing teeth, and whilst he laughs and tells me it's ok I can see in his little face that it's not.  It hurts my heart to see it - but what hurt my heart more was Jake's offer of going without any Christmas presents this year when he saw the bill at the dentist's office (over $500).  He doesn't have to worry about it, it's taken care of already and he's going to get what he wants for Christmas this year.

I just wish it could've been his two front teeth.

Awww. Poor guy. I'm sorry this happened. It's got to be tough for him (and you). I hope that it all works out for the best.

Ouch! So sorry. Tell him he's still cute anyway!

What a great kid! There aren't too many who would make this offer.

You have a great boy there Karen.  And it is apparent he gets it from his parents.

He's getting used to it now, but is still having difficulty coming to terms with his mouth looking like that for the next 7 years.

I have, and thank you!

Yeah, we're really lucky to have Jake.  He's an awesome little dude and I wish that I could express how much my heart hurts to see him cry.  I'd rather have knocked out my own teeth than have him lose his two.

Thank you.  I think so too!
