My Mom Really Abhors JoeUser!

Argh!

My mom really abhors this site. "Why are you always on the computer? Do you talk about these people just to bother me? These are only real relationships to a certian extent. You could be doing something productive." on and on and on. It drives me nuts.

I know that I need to cut back and limit myself to this and other sites, but it's addictive. It's like you have floating conversations going all the time, and you want to check to see if someone said anything back. I like writing, it relieves stress and also getting and giving feedback feels somewhat fulfilling. I know this quesion has been floating around, "Are online relationships real relationships?" Of course they are (with the exception of a few unmentionables ;))... just to what extent?

So, really I don't know what the point of this article was. Just venting about her venting about JoeUser. I do need to cut back, but I don't have that horribly great of friends in real life. People don't call me to hang out all the time *tear falls* and I'm such an extrovert that I thrive on conversation and interaction. What's so wrong with that? Mom's calling me, seriously.

I'd say that online friendships are sometimes as real to the extent of real relationships. There are some people online that matter to me as much as people in real life. Hell, the death of an online friend's pet got to me as much as when one of mine died.

She should be happy that you're on JoeUser. There are much worse places to be online. In fact, I'd say that JoeUser has much less drama and immaturity than most other places I know.

As long as you handle your responsibilities and maintain some sort of life outside the Internet though, I'd say you're not spending too much time online.
