Updated Tech Tree For Download Now

I've made some corrections to the old tech tree and put together a 70% zoom version that should display tech and project bonuses more clearly now. All tech trees are now located at:

Holy cow! Thanks, man, this is really appreciated :D

...and to think I spent about two hours yesterday evening drawing a careful map of the tech tree, complete with the more important effects. Since your version is waaaay better, though, I don't mind dumping my work in the trash ;)

This tree is really great stuff. Thanks!

I thought Alliance had some sort of prerequisite?

I researched Diplomacy, which allowed Advanced Diplo and Trade, but Alliance was not available to me.

I thought I look on Javascout's website and saw that Alliance depended on all kinds of wierd stuff like nanotechnology and phasers or something that did not make sense to me.

Am I wrong or am I misunderstanding the techtree you made? (I see no arrows going to Alliance other than Diplomacy)

Scott:

The tech tree does include all starbase modules, their research costs, required tech, and effects. Some 100% zoom images that are quite a bit larger than the previous versions have been uploaded too, so give those a try if you have good resolution.

I haven't printed out my own tech tree on paper yet to be honest, and I can't check it out on my current machine. You might want to try opening the file locally with MS Paint and see if that works. Maybe someone else who has printed it successfully can chip in? I can upload the original Excel file somewhere if that will help.

Stregone:

Do you still need the files through e-mail, or have you downloaded them from aeol's site already?

Honor:

You're right, Alliance requires Instant Communication, and the arrow come from there overlapped with the one from Diplomacy. I'll see if I can fix that now. Thanks for the heads up.

The very best way to do this is to print them out with a plotter (the white background version). Looks wonderful! Maybe I'll make some plotter versions for people if they can't get to one themselves.. :D

Good for putting on the wall for reference.

I just fixed the Alliance requirements and updated both my pages, but they are still down right now. I'm going to submit copies of the tech tree to the library and see if Stardock can host them instead.

Recommendation:

Make 3 or 4 pages of printable chart. That is 4 files, each can be printed and easily read on a single page, then the complete chart can be composed by connecting all these pages.

And I really think that this kind of information should be available through ingame help, similar to civopedia in civ games

MxM111:

Do you have access to any software that can cut up large images easily as you have suggested? I don't think I'll be able to manually cut up those tech trees with just MS Paint before driving myself crazy. Those tech trees are really large pictures.

I've already sent my latest files to Stardock, but I'm going to get an update to aerol as well in the meantime.

For viewing in Internet explorer, make sure you turn off the autoimage scaling and it should be larger if your having trouble reading it.

aerol:

Check your incoming folder. I just uploaded the latest updates through ftp. Thanks!

Just found another error. Xeno Intimidation does NOT require Interstellar Marketing, but I forgot to dot the Interstellaer Marketing -> Capitalism line to make that clear. I'll try to fix it right now...

I just cut them up using Photoshop, but there's a nice freeware programm called Irfanview which makes it also possible to cut the picture in say 4 pages.

I just added alignment requirements to all applicable techs and fixed the Xeno Intimidation links.

aerol:

Check your incoming folder again. Latest files have been uploaded.

LordTheRon:

I'll go take a look at Irfanview and see what I can do with it. Thanks!

I just switch to 1024x768 resolution, load the 50% gray background versions up in IE, and Alt-Tab to it when I need to check something out. It's probably not as convenient as a print out, but it works...

By the way, does anyone know what "Galactic Domination Philosophy" is supposed to do? There doesn't seem to be any inherent effect, project, or starbase modules attached to it when I look it up at Javascout's database...

E-Tigger:

Download Irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/

Divide the the whole file in four pieces (something like 1137x1925) . Select one fourth (just by dragging the mouse having the left button pressed) and press ctrl+c. Open up a new irfanview window and press ctrl+v. You can then save the quarter or print it right away. If you print all quarters on A4 paper (Irfanview does this beautifully!) you can easily glue/seal/tape them together. I have a very nice A2 size techtree now.

Thanks again Za H! :)

Could someone please tell me what the dotted lines are on this tech tree, as opposed to solid lines? Thanks!

One thing is that on a 34x44 plot (which looks awesome on the wall.. a bit over 2 foot wide, probably 4 foot long), is that it is very difficult to read the black letters on the dark green background. At least from my chair. ;p

What would be very cool for this excellent tech tree btw, is legend which tells what the solid vs. dotted lines are, and explains what each color represents.

That should have been explained on the download page, but then again, those are probably down right now, so let me just copy and past them over:

Research costs are shown in parenthesis. Alignment requirements are shown in brackets where applicable (latest version). Core technologies are color coded to correspond with their respective areas of research as displayed in game, except industrial research is now orange. All social and military projects, starbase modules, trade goods, achievements, and wonders are placed in transparent boxes immediately below the technology that enables their research. Some overlapping arrows are dotted to help distinguish them from each other (that's the only reason they're dotted). I have decided not to show starbase module requirements to avoid clutter. Interrelated modules that are enabled by the same technology are shown in the order they must be constructed in though.

Hope that helps!

Hmm, thanks LordtheRon.
Trying it out with Photoshop and guides, can't get a nice size though for print out... oh well, keeping on trying though.

Thanks again for the tree and the help
