Some things I'd like to see for ObjectDock

Some things I'd like to see for ObjectDock

Wishfull thinking....

Now, don't get me wrong, for the money ObjectDock plus is a rockin' program. I love it. And the past few upgrades have been super. As a monkey that makes skins for OD, I sometimes find myself limited in the things I can do as far as design, but that's to be expected. The developers can't read the minds of the folks using or designing for OD. I understand that. So here are a couple of things I'd like to see for ObjectDock, if you have any others, feel free to post 'em. (oh, and if any of these are already in OD, slap me)

1. I know I can set my tabs to be different colors and have different fonts...however, what I'd like to see is a way to have different color fonts for active/inactive tabs. For example, the active tab has a white font, the inactive tabs has a gray or black font.

2. Blurring! I'd love to see the same option that WB6 now has where you could turn on blurring for the docks...say you have a clear dock and where you can see through it is slightly blurred. That would rock.

3. Docks that can be curved. I know I can make curved docks...but how sweet would it be to have the icons follow the curve of the dock?

Ok, your turn.

Glad to see there are some good ideas out there still.  :D

Good requests.4. Now this is probably a bit far-fetched, but hey... why not support animated icons? I wouldn't mind having a shimmering firefox logo or a folder that just kinda subtly glowed blue or something like that.

There is a docklet for this.

What docklet is that?

As an aside . . I happen to know that the OD dev has seen this thread.  :)   :CONGRAT:

https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?skinid=2074&libid=29
Right-click on the dock | Add Entry | Animated Shortcut docklet
And a search of the OD library with some animates icons : https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=29&search=animated&p=1

thanks! it appears it works best in the zoomers though, the tabs are somewhat limited when it comes to effects (in the tab it either must constantly animate or not at all...)

Well, here I am late again! Since playing around with WinStep Extreme, I've become spoiled with the docks' ability to show it's icons reflection. Any icon!

Of course I immediately thought "wouldn't this be a blast if this effect could be applied to Object Dock icons as well?!"

The amount of reflection 0-100 and possibly Enable / Disable radial switches would have to be added to Object Dock's application code under EFFECTS I would imagine. But as I read this forum, I didn't see this anywhere as a suggestion, unless I missed one.

I guess I'm presenting this question to Messiah or WebGizmos, who I know will be straight forward.

Is there a plan to or is it even possible to add icon reflection to Object Docked icons? And if it is, what would necessitate designers such as Messiah and WebGiz to apply this effect to an already huge gallery, if it's something to be added to the current INI file?

There has to be an easy way to add reflection outside of hacking the INI.

I'm quite interested to hear about this.

Thanx...

This is really more of a question for Jeff (the developer). I'm hoping it is a top secret feature addition to 2.0 but who knows.

Something I thought about this weekend as I was designing my latest set...It would be nice to be able to set the position of the running indicators independent of the position of the dock. i.e., if your dock is on top, your indicators are on top and if it's on bottom your indicators are on bottom etc. for left/right.

How about a check box or drop down to set the placement. For top/bottom docks you can set it top/bottom and left/right docks you can set it left/right.  :D

Then here's hoping with you bro, I'd have a grand-mal seizure if they added icon reflection and the side-induced running indicators to OD!

i'll jump on board with all things mentioned here. especially the curved docs--zoomers and tabbed. i think it'd be cool to be able to place one in a corner of the screen so that there's just a semi-circle showing, like a quarter of a pie, with a bunch of icons around the curve. also, if were a tabbed dock, maybe just one tab would be shown and you could click a button or arrow and the next tab would rotate into view from "off screen".

anyway, just a couple ideas, i'm pumped for the eventual release of the next version of OD.

I know I'm new at this, but, I was thinking about being able to have different images for different Tile positions in a background...i.e.,TileTop, TileBottom, TileLeft, TileRight.....like you can do with the the zoomers and the tabs.

That's a great idea and I've hoped for that myself. I wonder...

So I'm curious, any signs of OD 2 beta versions on the horizon?

You're right as rain brother no doubt and I am apologizing to you with all my heart. But see, I thought all along that the reflective properties was built in the dock, not the icons, so I've learned something today.

You coulda PM'd the egg in my face though, instead of spanking me in front of the entire community! Thanx for the link bro, I love 'em!

I don't see why not.....you can do that for backgrounds now...same with tabs. But the images on each side would still have to be the same...except for tabs....you could use 2 different images. That is if I'm reading this right.

Oh...and CP....reflections would be cool....but would also take up more space. And if you had a tool to add the reflections to the icons/pngs I don't see why you couldn't already do that...you can add a dropshadow...why not a reflection?

SirSmiley made a gadget for that, the iReflector I think.

/me would like to see OD's config window match that of WB and IP, with live preview of dock background without applying it
