What's Your JoeUser History?

Did you know that JoeUser, as it stands right now, recently passed the four year mark?  Hard to believe the site has been around that long, giving many of us a digital home in the information wasteland that is what folks now call the "blogosphere".

It was September 9th, 2003, JoeUser changed from just the personal blog page for Brad (Draginol/Frogboy) and became the community site you see before you now.  While visually and perhaps functionally the site hasn't changed a great deal in those four years, I know the community has.  Four years is quite a while in "Internet Time" and I'm sure a lot has changed for everyone here since they landed on the site.

I came to JoeUser in November of 2003, but didn't post anything until New Years Eve.  From there I started writing about my personal experiences as a fresh college graduate, trying to find a job, and moving away from the only home I had ever known as I ventured off into the wide world.  Quickly I strayed towards games, politics and current events, especially as the 2004 Presidental election approached.

JoeUser has seen me go from an unsure college grad desparately seeking a job, through my first post-college job at an insurance company in Connecticut, and eventually to a full-time job with Stardock.  In the time I've been here I've lived in 3 states at 7 different addresses, worked for three different jobs, visited two foreign countries, been in 3 relationships and acquired a cat.

FOund JU through a tech link in August 2004.  I started reading Brad, and then went to comment on one article (By another user) and found it locked to all but registered users.  So I did.  IN sept of that year.

A cookie who can tell me my anon handle for the month + that I was not registered (Stardock Emplyees cant play because they know the IPs. ))

I joined JU in October of 2004.

I was looking for a place to keep a virtual journal, and the first site I joined didn't impress me. I googled blog sites a second time, and voila...there was JU. I liked that there was interaction amongst the bloggers, so I joined.

At first, I felt VERY much an outsider since I did't know anyone (and everyone else seemed to know each other so well), but in time, I got to know people on here, and to this day, continue to enjoy their friendships and company.

It was 10/27/2004 that I joined JU. As my blog description says I have something to say ... I think.

I was just looking for an easy way to start a blog and this place looked fun. My time here has been interesting and my life has changed so much since I began here. The notable things I have been involved in are few. I've had my share (though few) of spats. I've been featured a time or two. And like a few here have been confined to my own blog. I decided during the big points inquisition to prove that you could easily give yourself tens of thousands of points overnight. In return I was confined and had all my points and more taken away. To this day I am the last JUser on the list if you care to click that many times with -4617 points.

I've made some spectacular friends here. I've gotten a couple of packages in the mail when my kiddos were born. Thanks again! And, even though it has no possible shred of truth, have even been said to have something going on with LW. The first friend I made here was Dr. Guy due to our technology related jobs. (I might have caused some sort of time ripple by mentioning those two in the same paragraph)

I have two other blogging sites. One for me that never gets updated and one for my kiddos that lately has seen more updates from me that JU and even that hasn't been much. I still love the community here and have a hard time not coming here daily to do a little reading.

JoeUser popped up right in front of my eyes as I surfed for a free blogsite.  I signed up on August 1st,  2004 and a month later my son and I moved into a really nice,  however small,  apt.

That was to be the dawning of a difficult time in my life.  Blogging here helped me through gall bladder surgery in Oct. of 04,  total knee replacement in Aug. 05,  and so much more( medically and emotionally )  The support of bloggers made a world of difference. I was delighted with the positive and encouraging comments from a whole slew of JUsers.

Blogging here has also helped me to think things through a little slower,  when I need to,  and to not be afraid to say what I think.  I've gotten angry,  lashing out from pieces of old baggage toddling behind me,  laughed while reading from the "Humor" section,  and have found myself feeling small and ashamed when reading some of the horrendous things that bloggers here have and are going through.

Since that move in Sept. of 04 I've now moved out on my own again,  and am able to laugh at myself,  and try to live a more easy going life.  Thanks JU.

I started here in August 2004. It was a sideways switch really - I'd bought a few games from Stardock and got into the blogging side through Political Machine, which I never really got into that much but had some really interesting discussions going on.

Since then I think I've changed somewhat in my political views at least and maybe in other ways. It's always hard to tell though. It's been good to see a completely different way of looking at life, and that's what you get from JU.

"hey you old schoolers - remember BAM! ha."

Oh, yes....

Well. I joined and created my first blog on November 16, 2003, not long after the site opened to the public. I've written hundreds and hundred of articles--I've written "my 100th article blog" three times--though I've deleted most of them for one reason or another. I've had months that I spent eight hours a day on JU, writing articles and commenting. I've had months when I never visited the site. I've decided to leave countless times and been banned once. I've made friends and enemies--and Brad has been in both those categories at one time or another.

I was seventeen when I joined, and I turn 21 in under a week. I learned a lot here. In many ways, JU embodies my peculiar brand of cynicism; it taught me not to be so surprised when the worst in people rises to the surface, and to have faith that the best will not be long in returning.

I was an early Drengin.net subscriber...That's how I found JoeUser. In 2003 I had just retired from the Navy and was in college. Now I'm a defense contractor teaching network security. Funny I've never posted any articles, never seem to have the time to just write my thoughts down. I do enjoy reading everyone else's though, a post a reply now and then to boot. One day perhaps.

JU we've been promised they can finally correct that issue, John.

I really doubt it, unless they take away the ability to give points to yourself by commenting on your own articles. The rest is just an innocent flaw and internet latency.

or have you forgotten?

Nope. I do realize that the intent was a jab at me in protection of someone who doesn't need anyone to stand up for them. If you can't run with the big dogs...

I signed up on Dec 24, 2003, and just recently passed the 500 mark for posting random and totally useless articles. My girl was 6 when I started here, and she'll be 10 before my 'joeuser anniversary'.

I've yet to physically meet anyone here, but exchange the occasional letter with some awesome people, and keep in touch via email with other people who have come and gone. I've sent some cards and a few gifts here and there, and are friends on both Myface and Spacebook with others here.

I respect this crazy town, this little home of sorts. It's always good to come back to, regardless of how nutso it gets sometimes. There are certainly some great writers here, and definitely some great people.

I found JU on google in 2005.

I was angry and unhappy and wanted someone to fight with, (little did I know at the time my thyroid stopped working and was really affecting my brain/mood chemistry).

So I wrote under diff usernames back when we could do the username ANON thing.....At first I just wanted to vent and fight, take my anger out on people who weren't "real," real in my life anyway. I wasn't interested in getting to know anyone. In fact, like most blogs I believed it didn't matter because no one ever saw it.

BUT, I got sucked in as soon as I started following regular bloggers. I was interested in their lives, their opinions and ideas. I saw something in JU that the rest of the net didn't offer...conversation with adults...not a bunch of 16 year olds pretending to be adults.

I didn't get any satisfaction being ANON then, and a few days later I was diagnosed and started medication for my thyroid. Once I got my life in order I created an real account on JU and started taking an active interest in the blogs here.

JU is a blessing in my life. It's here at 3am when I can't sleep. It's here when my husband is gone. It's here when I am happy and things are great, and when I feel crappy and things are not so wonderful. It's an outlet for my fiction and people are so gracious even when it sucks hard core...heh.

In my head JU is a cyber town and we are all a community. That is why I wrote the JUDE story. I am part of this place and very thankful to be here.
