Eagles Long Road Out of Eden
I'm finally getting a chance to listen to the Eagles Long Road Out of Eden set that I purchased from Wally-world the other day (see some discussion about that purchase here: I don't mind paper packaging, but come on) and wanted to come back and give it a quick thumbs up and highly recommended for those that might want to hear some Eagles tunes.
A review in the local newspaper was a bit harsh and only turned up 'fair to middlin' for the set, but personally I think it's a good collection that includes the obvious Eagles sound and style, though that sound and style isn't any one sound or any one style as the Eagles have always been a collaborative effort of Don Henley, Glenn Frey and later Joe Walsh and more (not meaning to slight Timothy Schmit here at all either as his vocals come through in several places here, and have been strong on several of the Eagles hits in the past too).
I definitely want to hear the set several more times, but from just one complete listen I can tell that I'm much, much, much happier with this set and purchase of same than I was with Springsteen's Magic release of just a few weeks back. The title track here is reminiscent of tunes from back in the Eagles Desperado and On the Border collections. Followed up with the 'hit' tune How Long and then followed with a collection of songs that will remind you of pretty much all of the Eagles previous hits, along with one tune that surely carries the Joe Walsh unique vocals.
I believe that, for now, this set is a Wally-world (Wal-Mart) exclusive, and those that don't like giving money to them will be left with the moral dilemma as to whether to stay out of Sam Walton's stores, or suck it up and grab a copy of the set from same. Of course you might also find it up on eBay, and perhaps even Amazon.com where someone that bought the set is already selling it 'used'. Either way, to me it is worth the purchase price which should be $11.88 or less as that's the 'new' price at Wal-Mart (and I believe also at Sam's Club stores).
