Cuss Words and Asteriks

Just Say What You Mean!~

So lately, I've been wondering why, when you all swear, you put asteriks in place of some letters in the cuss words. For example: "I don't know what the h**l I was thinking!" or "What the f*** was he talking about?" We all know what you mean when you types these words. Someone answered "why?" with the reason that he does it, like they do it on tv, and it's like bleeping out the word. You know it's there, but incase kids are around or something it's good to bleep it. Now, I would venture to guess that almost ALL of JoeUsers are 15 or older, and that they obviously know what the word is supposed to be.

So why does one do this? If you're going to cuss, just do it. Why play little games? We all know what it means and it doesn't make it less offensive when you add a couple cute stars to it, if it was offensive at all. Now, really, for those of you who do this, why?

When I do it, it's merely consideration...

F*** is much more offensive than F***... hehe... I hope you understand what I meanby that

I've only done it a few times, I guess I just do it for my on conscience. If I asterisk the letters, I don't think I've actually typed the word. I usually only do it when I'm talking to the female types. I do the same thing when I talk sometimes. I'll silence myself in place of a cuss word and keep on talking. It sounds goofy, but I don't like to say the word or can't say the word in a certain situation. Just my two cents.

And props for linking Capt. Cornbread as one of your favorite people

Haha... If i feel like being angry, but not SWEARING angry, (if that makes sense...?) then i replace the word....

Like Frick, Sheeza/Shizzle (haha hate the latter one!), Beeatch, Dang,flippin... ETC.... i dunno.
But then, sometimes i get a bit crazy and swear, D**N IT!!

I will do it to be polite on someone else's blog, if they use asterisks.

On my own ..if i feel the need to cuss ..I just cuss.

As you said we all know what those words are anyway.

I just say it...or spell it, whichever way you want to look at it.

It's like in shows. Sometimes you know damn well what they're saying, although the bleeping makes it funnier.

For me, I'm not a fan of certain swear words. Certain ones I use without blinking, while others I do put the asteriks in. I just see it as a coutresy. Not everybody wants to come to a blog and see a bunch of swearing.

as long as you don't use the Lord's name in vain, i'm cool with it.

I actually censor myself in real life...when I feel the need. Just imagine it (haha, Michael). Talking to someone who starts off a word "fuuuuuuu" then makes a car crash sound. I'm a very interesting person to be around.

I'm still not gettin' how it's a consideration... if you think swearing is inconsiderate in the first place, then don't do it, askeriks or no asteriks.

I would beg to differ; it's not like in shows... how is it funny seeing asteriks in a blog? Whatever

"as long as you don't use the Lord's name in vain, i'm cool with it."
I was thinkin' about that earlier today, and thinking the exact same thing... and as long as you're not making a personal attack on someone on this site, I'm cool, too.

Yeah, I guess it isn't as funny when used in blogs as it is when used in shows.
