Well imagine that, I guess Apple wasn't all the happy with news of hacks to it's iPhone. Unfortunately they seem to be causing problems for unhacked phones also. Are you thinkng the same thing I am, do they share programmers with Microsoft!   


An Apple software update is disabling iPhones that have been unlocked by owners who wanted to choose which mobile network to use. Earlier this week Apple said a planned update would leave the device "permanently inoperable". There are also reports of the update causing issues with unaltered iPhones.

LOL i see apple as a whole taking a big big big hit in the popularity dept.

unlike PC'oses , phones and providers are a dime a dozen and the users are more fickle. piss off the customer base and bam!!! they move on and don't look back...I would sumise this could kill off their already weak hold on the cell phone market ...

Oh well, looks like Mr Smug Jobs will pay a much bigger price for his product exclusivity ideas than he could possibly imagined. When consumers buy a product they want to use it as they wish/see fit, so this "permanently inoperable" update is going to alienate tons of consumers across the board.

Whether a user has hacked his/her iPhone or not, they're going to think Apple has gotten too heavy handed and will be distrusting of buying its products in future.

For mine, if someone gave me an unpackaged iPhone, I'd sell it (unopened/unused) for whatever and buy something I really wanted for my puter....damned iPhone hype.

Niiiice - 3-year commitment & an "inoperable" phone. Seems all they'd need to do is disable other carriers, if they were going to do anything. Since as I recall Apple got their money & AT&T is in the user's pocket for 3 years anyway, who exactly is getting hurt by using an iPhone on some other network?

iphones are pretty cool. If I could hassle free use one with Verizon, I would probably have one now with the pricedrop but who knows. A cooler phone would be one that gets reception.
