"solar system" scenario map 1vs.1AI for sins beta 2

I've tried to do a map of the solar system. In scale.

Which didn't work out of course.

So I did one which isn't really to scale. It's a one player vs. one AI map. As usual, the AI gets some bonus to be a stronger enemy. Prepare yourself to fight unusual strong light frigates, LRM frigates with very long ranges, etc. Avoid rushing enemy Gauss Cannons, since they aren't as weak as they once were. But especially beware of enemy Battleships. They've got new devastating laser weapons.

Oh, and we really need a gas giant planet model. It's desperately needed.

For the most fun, play against a hard AI with marauders on.

To install it, just download the zip file from the following link and copy its content into your sins folder. There is also a readme.txt file inside with more detailed instructions.

--------------------------

Known issues:
-starting positions are random, so it can happen that you'll start in the AI's place
you should start with Earth, the Moon, Mars and Phobos under your control, if you don't, just start again until you do

--------------------------

Tips:
- the Pirates hideout is very well defended, don't try to defeat them without a large fleet, but the resources they're hiding could be worth some losses
- the AI's LRM frigates are very dangerous, but quite fragile, destroy them as fast as possible
- never rush enemy Laser Cannon defenses, they do pack a punch
- double up on flak frigates, the enemy doubled up on fighter/bomber squadrons
- the Moon is your main fleet headquarter, ie. lots of fleet points there
- Mars has lots of building space, since it was colonized a longer time ago
- volcanic planets are not very hospitable, so you won't be able to do much with them
- if you're low on resources, there are lots of asteroids in the main asteroid belt around the sun
- defending asteroids is hard, use a fleet for that purpose
- try rushing the AI, it only starts with one planet compared to your four, but it's planets are much better
- beware of Trans Neptunian Objects
- use overwhelming numbers, the AI's fleet is just better than yours
--------------------------

The improved Gauss Cannons:

The AI got some new toys:

Smaller ships have no chance.

Even other capitals have to fight hard to stay alive against it's main laser battery.

This looks lovely vandenburg -- I'd try it, but with Beta 3 just a few days away (and, for me, workdays) I don't think I'd have time to finish it. And I really don't want the torment of choosing between finishing it, and working on Beta3.

You havn't seen anything yet

Van i tried the map out, and it looks great. i didnt get a chance to fight the "eris" race cause i didnt have time to do so, but i did run into 1 issue trying to uninstall the mod. I followed your uninstall directions to the letter, but when i started Sins back up it crashed because it was still looking for the "race eris" files. I wound up having to re-install Sins. Can you check this out? I would like to try the map again.

I'm very sorry about that.

I will check it out as soon as possible. (It's very early in the morning, where I'm from, so it will take some time.)

I assume it's either because of one of the files in the setting folder. Or I've overlooked something else.

------------------

Edit: Ok I've found it. Just as I thought. (But didn't thought of when I've wrote the readme. ) There are two more files to be deleted (or to be rewritten).

Both of them are in C:\documents and settings\username\program data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting
The first file is user.setting. Open it with notepad.
At the end of this file is a line called:
LastUsedPlayerDefName "PlayerEris"
just change it to
LastUsedPlayerDefName "PlayerTech".

Who thought it a good idea to place this line in this file? Grrr...

There may be (very unlikely though) another entry in
SinglePlayerGalaxySetup.setting. This file can be safely deleted. Although most of the times this is not necessary.

I will update the readme tomorrow.

Edit2:

An even easier way to do this, is to start at least one game with the stock TEC race and a normal galaxy, before deinstalling the map. Thus overwriting those entries in those files. After this the mod can be safely deleted.
