Saturday: Hiked/trail-ran 4.0 miles up and down Baylor Pass this morning at O'Dark O'Clock. I met Eve and Allen at the

trailhead. Eve's 67th birthday is today! And Allen is 70! The plan was for me to go up two miles and return and they would do

one up and return. I had my wonderful clip-on LED headlight and a red flasher, as well as the pups. The first mile was

comfortable. We talked alot and took a break or two. At the one mile mark, Eve and Allen turned around and I pressed

forward.

At this point, I started working it. The trail is pitched with a lot of boulders that you have to climb over. There are parts that are

very slippery with pebble-like sand, and all along the trail, prickly pear and other desert thorns await a mis-step.

I took a few pictures along the way.

I began at 4400'. At about 5700' or so I hit the two mile mark and gave the boys a drink (I carry a small water bowl in my fanny

pack for them).

I turned and started jogging down the steep path. After a short distance, I saw a great yucca stalk. I grabbed it and broke it off.

I cleaned it a bit with my hunting knife (I also carry this on trail runs) and presto, a terrific hiking staff! This helped a great deal

on the downward run.

At the base, near the trailhead, I noticed my LED was missing off my belt. Oh well...I will have to get another one of those little

life savers!

See ya next week.
