Has a private messaging system been considered for JU?

Just curious if a private message system has been considered for JU so that users that aren't blacklisted can contact other users 'offline' without having to expose e-mail addresses for spam harvesters and the like?

I'm sure there'd be other ways that a PM system could be abused and knowing the troubles keeping spammers away has been, I'd guess that's all part of why I've not noticed such a system in effect here in the past, but then I'm not always in the know on things and could very well have passed right on by a feature I'm looking for.

I've wondered this many times.

You know, that gives me a bright idea...well maybe it isn't so bright, because I just woke up, haven't had enough coffee, and haven't really thought about it.

But seems to me I could provide a simple forum where JUs could sign up that included a PM system. Most forums have that these days, anyways.

I should probably solicit ideas on my own thread, terp, but if you'd indulge, I'll just mark this post to watch and ask your readers and others to come weigh in on whether or not they'd like me to do such a thing.

And just so discussions wouldn't inadvertantly move to there, there would only be one forum, and no posts would be allowed. It would be simply for me to announce any downtimes or maintenace updates. Users would register citing their JU name, and would be requested to use their JU name as their "handle" Then people could pop over there and PM each other til their hearts content.

If Brad wished, when it was done, I'd give him the whole thing if he wanted it. PMs here would be an awesome addition. Great idea, and thanks for bringing it up in a post, Terp.

I can just see the implementation of PMs to JoeUser... I write a PM to Ock, and it gets accidently posted to the forums and my blog...

They currently have an email system that can be used to send privater messages, and that seemed to work when I tried it.

How?  Meaning how were you able to send someone (another JoeUser) an e-mail as I've not found any way to do that?  I click on their name, check out their site stats, etc., but never see anything related to e-mail this user.  So how are you finding this ability??

In the forums, click on the avatar, and a menu pops up with "Email ___" as one of the options.
