My Saddest Day/My Happiest Day

What a horrible day and a good day yesterday. It hopefully will never happen to me again. Earlier in the afternoon we found out my wife had a miscarriage. We spent all day at the emergency and it really made me see how bad the system is here now and how we need to pay premiums or get private health care somehow. A lady holding a rag to her bleeding scalp for over 2 hours, a guy with a screwed shoulder lying down asleep since he had been there for over 4 hours! Crazy. It was horrible and the loss is sorely missed as we were looking forward to this new arrival as were our 2 boys as well...It was the worst day I can recall in my near-32 years. Then my team The Calgary Flames go on to the Stanley Cup finals and I'm the biggest NON-BANDWAGON fan in these parts, since day 1 *like I've had to explain to heckler assholes constantly*. Ages and ages waiting for this to occur and it had to happen on the worst day I've had. Go figure.

My condolences for you and your family's loss. You always have to look at the good side of those things though (if there is a good side). The baby might have had serious health problems and might not have had a qualitative life. But, like I said earlier, I am very sorry.

Miscarriages are sometimes nature's way of cleaning house, Miki, especially ones that happen early in the pregnancy.


That being said, I am sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry, Todd. My mom had three (possibly four) miscarriages, and was heart-broken over each of them. You're totally not alone, but it's hard anyhow.

I'm sorry about your wife's miscarriage. It is hard. As for ER, no matter what health system you have everyone waits. With the best insurance in a great hospital I've always had to wait, no matter what the cause. Only those in risk of dying immediately get helped quickly. Hopefully, you will never have to return, except for your wife to give birth.

As for ER, no matter what health system you have everyone waits.

Depends on your idea of "wait".  I have never had to wait at the hospital that I go to (and it's in a big city with a large University in it, so there are always lots of people to be seen) for more than an hour.  Most of the time the ER sees you in less than 30 minutes.   There is no way that they would let somebody that was bleeding sit there for 2 hours.  That is insane! (and a bit scary, too!)

mikimouse, I hope that your family recovers quickly from this loss.  One thing that modern medicine has done for us is to let us know very quickly about pregnancies.  My doctor told me that it's quite common for women to have miscarriages.  Until fairly recently after the advent of all the super quick drugstore test kits, women would have miscarriages before they ever knew they were pregnant.  Of course, on the flip side, now that we know that it happens we can get medical treatment to make sure that we will get another chance at it.  I hope that you wife is able to deal with it well and that you will be blessed with that wanted child soon.

Thanks to all of you guys for your nice thoughts and comments. It's hard to think about but we know we'll try again and hopefully it will turn out right. My wife is paranoid now, as am I. We don't want that to happen again, but there's only one way to find out. Stumps that made me chuckle and I'll see you over at SoNowWhat. Mignuna that was VERY funny. It made me smile. Ms.Hansen I gave you 2 insightfuls.
