Working from home is for the birds

Where is that tree that I'm supposed to touch?

I've found during the past couple of years that working from home isn't all that it's cracked up to be. It took a lot of hard looking into myself, as well as reflection of my own actions during said time period for me to come to this conclusion. I thought at the outset that it would be a piece of cake... kind of like cleaning house, you know? I was thinking that I could move work a little, clean a little, cook a little... and quickly change between these tasks as necessary to make "things happen". Boy was I wrong... Did you realize that no matter how much you may enjoy your work... the most motivational part of it may just be the normal stress you have to put yourself in to get it done. Like for instance... when trying to get a certain work project done you may need to have several documents open at once... spread out over the virtual desktop as well as the physical one... research is ongoing trying to get the right solution to whatever part of the project you are currently working on... and you've spent a couple of hours ramping up to it... possibly with a couple drafts behind your belt... you fell like your right on the verge of getting it done... and at just that moment you realize, crap I've got to get the kitchen clean because if I don't we can't get dinner cooked... oh darn I forgot to lay out the hamburger for dinner... Hey, wait a second wasn't I supposed to be getting some laundry done today... but then it hits you... you've only got 2 days to complete the project you were working on (you were working a project, right?)... and so it goes.

To sum it all up, working from home requires a place to work from home that is isolated from "Home"... where you can concentrate, and dedicate yourself to getting your job done. Well if that's what it takes, why not go into the office to start with? Working from home is for the birds... and didn't someone suggest that we touch a tree outside our houses and leave our work problems at work when we come home? When you work from home, where is the tree... and when do you touch it?
