Battlefleet Gothic

Battlefleet Gothic

I don't know if any of you guys are a fan of the mini's genera. Did anyone here ever play games workshops short lived Battlefleet Gothic.

That game was pretty fun.

Some of the stuff I liked from there.

1. Massive torpedoes

Were talking about ship killers that you had to move the ship out of the way from and could use to move other guys ships out of areas that you wanted to go into.

2. Boarding action

You could fire "boarding torpedoes" and basically take over a ship or failing at that sabotage large sections of it.

3. Ramming / Fire Ships

Some ships could ram it was pretty sweet some could also function like a big torpedo.... that was awesome.

4. The ships had sections you could knock out an engine ... that was pretty cool.

5. Ships could really blow up

As in they would implode and take down anyone who happened to be near them that was pretty awesome.

6. Some ships as i recall could use gravitic and solar wind effects

not sure where to go for that, sorry, my previous qualifications are lotsa compsci and a willingness to reload the game a lot because I crashed it. Well, that and an eye for detail and a borderline level of ocd when coding, but I'm the resident code monkey. iNert'd be the guy to ask, and I bet he's also got to deal with finals, seeing as he just disappeared.

Wow lol. Wish my computer played sins better and that kiernyc and I tested the mod more often.

AWSO, BLUE DAKKA IS BETTA DAKKA CUZ I FINK IT IS!

Nope, sorry, they're coming up once iNert gets prezo the model, I think. Soon, probably.

In other news, we've got lunar and gothic class cruisers now, so I'll probably take a few screenies and post them after my cs final (7-8 most likely)

EDIT: Sorry they're late, but have some more screenies:

Gothic class cruiser firing lances

Gothic class cruiser firing its lances.

Gothic class cruiser firing lances part 2

Gothic class cruiser firing its lances from the other side, check those beams out  .

2 lunars and 2 gothics fighting three acherons

2 Gothic class Cruisers and 2 Lunar class cruisers attacking 3 Acheron class cruisers (they already lost one)

Lunar class cruiser firing lances while being shot at by the Acherons

A Lunar trading lance shots with the Acherons (and firing its WBs, it's just between shots).

The view from the other side of the lunar

The view from the other side of the Lunar, showing the Acherons and the WB fire.

The Acherons firing from a strategic view

And the view from a more strategic zoom level.

How soon until you can do a public release?

I think I know the answer: "As soon as we can remove all of the non-GW IP."

You've probably already said it, but is the current build v1.11 compatible?

well, that's what I'm running on my computer right now. the only reason it needed updating to 1.1 was to fix a few things that needed a few new data fields, such as planets and abilities. It was more an excuse to get me motivated to put the IN in game than anything else. The hundredths patches don't change that thing, especially hotfixes. Believe me, I'd mention it if it started acting up. And looking through the screenies for entrenchment, I saw something that made me hopeful. Three different beam turrets at 90 degree angles from each other firing at the same target. I'd love any information any of you may have on whether that's the effect of spin or we may be getting some options about how wide firing arcs are.

SpardaSon: answering his own questions so I don't have to!

If you want loads of glorious karma (in both senses, the forum warm fuzzies kind and the having good things happen because of good things you did) figure out exactly what constitutes non-GW IP (keep in mind that the place names are entirely changed to warhammer ones (recently fought over armageddon with chaos, for example) except for a tiny bit of self-agrandizement I hope you don't hold against us and that I'm going to be working on getting new planet types together soonish so we'll have death planets and forgeworlds and homeworlds soonish (got full permission to borrow whatever I need from the sins plus mod, so that'll be awesome), and there's no mention of any of the races accessible in the ingame text apart from the tutorial which is something I'll just cut and replace with an in-depth manual. For example, if you could tell me whether building and trade/construction ship meshes and textures constitute IP, that'd be a great help and I'd appreciate it greatly.

So you want me to answer if Sins meshes are IP?  Technically, yes, the meshes/textures themselves are property of Ironclad.  However, to be more specific, I think it depends on what mesh/texture is being used.  You can use the basic non-race-specific meshes/textures like planets, asteroids, plasma storms, magnetic clouds, etc. with no problems since they could be classified as terrain.  I don't think GW minds people using the generic terrain from games that they are modding.  Using various race-specific meshes/textures is a no-no however.  So technically, trade/construction/building meshes/textures are forbidden.  Sucks, yes.  However if those are the least of your worries, I think you are good.

I suggest you focus on removing everything that is TEC, Vasari, or Advent, including strings, then cramming in the BFG stuff.  And get Tau in ASAP!  I look forwards to vaporizing those who stand in the way of the Greater Good.

yeah, that's what we've thought. There's a difference between the meshes that are fundamental building blocks of the game and represent aspects of their backstory and the like and the ones which represent generic real life stuff that isn't trademarked. I honestly think the basic guideline behind the rules is 'don't get into legal company with whoever's work your modding that could get us dragged into it somehow and above all maintain the creative vision of the universe and you're good'.

My main complaint is that GW says they are afraid of it "devaluing their IP" or something.  The only ships that come even close to BFG-sized are well, I can't think of anything that comes close to its scale.  Hell, I don't even know of anything that can match WH40K infantry, seeing as how the SM are walking tanks, the Orks are Orks, Eldar are Eldar, Chaos are demon-possessed SM, and the IG appear in enough numbers to cause people to run out of ammo long before the IG runs out of men.  I suppose that if someone brought a meson rifle or a proton cannon or some plasma grenades they might be able to hurt an SM or CSM.  As it is not much can get through the armor of a SM or CSM.

ok peeps in that case anyone know if i can just make a box and give it a center node and use it as a building? if i can we may see a release by cristmas because atm there is only 1 ship thats not a gw style ship in the imperial fleet ( thats right i did it i put 2 cap ships in and me and X crashed the game with their awsomeness... so i had to tone them down a bit) so you may get some bfg awsomeness very very soon... if not we may have to reverse engineer some buildings

I think they're more afraid of somebody making a very popular mod that causes bad associations in peoples' minds. Part of the reason for their success is that they've made everything in the universe so badassedly awesome that people who wouldn't play a tabletop wargame usually because of the 'nerdiness' involved are overwhelmed by the awesomeness of chainswords and the like, and having space marines get pwned by Mickey Mouse (for example, even Master Chief would hurt a bit) could not only have a major effect on that perception to everybody unfamiliar with warhammer and also, it would associate them with Mickey Mouse. So they just want their IP to remain in its own universe, and honestly I can sympathize with that a lot more than most reasons, a bunch of the guys working there have poured 20 years of effort into that universe, and it'd suck to see something you worked that long on treated as a laughingstock. By making you present everything in a manner consistent with the 40k universe, they want you to respect their work.

Plus, can you imagine the lunacy some halo fanboy could cook up, for example? It'd be almost as one-sided as that movie space marine list White Dwarf had a long time ago (5 models for 2000 points, but they get assault 5 lascannons and the like)

It should work, but there's a key thing you need for factories, ShipBuild, the only other things things the vasari capship factory has are some lighting effect emitters, a Center, an Aura and Build-Phase_ShipyardBuildEffect emitters, for example.

Culture, Repair Platform (oddly), Refinery, Weapon Jammer and Trade Port are center, aura, and above.

Phase gate adds an Ability0 emitter.

Extractors ONLY have Flair-Flair_Extraction (a visual effect)

Hangars have tons of hangars (unsurprisingly)

Research labs have ONLY BuffAttachPoint_Above, BuffAttachPoint_Aura, BuffAttachPoint_Centered, and Flair0.

Boarding would be cool, and having to deal with marine pods and demo pods would be another tacticl decision (keep shooting ships or divert fire to pods? Use pods as weapons or decoys?) that would improve the game. Planetary invasion would be a little superfluos, but maybe clture should be improved to convert enemy planets rather than just make them rebel and become uncolonisable until the culture is removed. Mayber A planetary assualt ship for the same purpose (but using culture to steal planets would be cool, and would make culture a more viable option not just to annoy, but to seriously damage opponents while boosting your own economy as the theft would give you all the upgrades the enemy had in place! Woot!)

How is planetary invasion superflous? Keep in mind a lot fewer ships are going to be able to bombard and that the siege frigate and colony frigate will be merged into the troop transport, which is at the heart of our scheme to help slow psychotic expansion and make measured attacks much more worthwhile, especially for the IN. It'll give us a lot of control over pacing, and the thought of gigantic waves of IG getting sent to the planet is a lot cooler than just blowing random things up and planting your flag in the rubble.

For culture I was thinking of making it depend, but chaos culture will be bad juju, that's for sure, I was thinking combining a port of the insurgency tech and actual negative population growth (daemons be deadly and so do inquisitors) for chaos' culture. That good enough? Imperial culture will boost their defenses' strength considerably, and Tau culture will steal income if we can make it work (water caste ftw) and probably some other things.

Oh, and:

and number 2:

probbly the forgeworld troop transport for imps and the transports of their races for the others

Yep, pretty much what I was thinking. There's pretty much a transport model for each race.

Just some random thoughts but would the Rouge trader be good for the trade ship model?

Also, have the Death Guard found the brown noise yet? X|

EDIT: Actually this would be a good model

The brown noise?  Oh god no.  I don't wanna crap myself to death.
