Point of view

Missleading screenshots and more.

I've finally had the chance to try the game and I must say it has an immense potential, a 4X styled game with unique features.

However, what initially "lured" me to this site and this game was the many cool screenshots around that surelly look impressive no matter how you look at them. To my great dissapointment when I actually had the chance to play the game (or actually a bit before when seeing some game footage) I noticed that the point of view used in the screenshot is never actually used in the game, at all.

Most of my time playing I merely see the small "icons" of your ships and facilities and while I occationally zoom in to get the feel of the action I quickly end up in the zoomed out mode just because it's much more practical.

Now while the screenshots look really cool and are actual in-game footage they don't represent the game much at all. I'm not trying to set you up or anything, I just merely wish there was more use in viewing the action up close and that the screenshots get some meaning. As it is today I end up playing a game without ever zooming in once to see the ship designs, I simply forget because it's worthless.

I guess it depends on your playstyle. I do tend to play in close and interact with most of the "strategic level" stuff through the empire window instead of by zooming out. If i do zoom out its usually only briefly and the I use the zoom hotkeys to make the process as quick as possible. I know that one of the things on the agenda is to make easier to play closer and we are looking into many different ways to do this - afterall it'd be a sin to all our artists if their work didn't get noticed

Exactly! I'll try your playstyle next time, so far I've found it much easier to control my fleets through the actual universe overview but maybe with a little training the empire window would be a better option.

Now, I'm curious on what you're planning (and brainstorming) that'll make it easier to play close, but I'm glad you're thinking of that!

When you say point of view, you mean zoom in to see the battles?

If thats the case, i sure do that in beta 2. Cause you gotta take care of your capital ships now.

If its a small battle i know ill be winning, i dont use my time there, and then zoom out to either build more defences or more ships.

If theres 2 importent battles, i look at one battle, and let my mouse over to the empire tree, and hold the mouse over the other fleet, to see how that fleet is doing.
If that fleet is in trouble, i might zoom over there, if i got the time, or else i just click it and select the planet i want them to retreat to.

This can actualy be dont with many fleets, having like 4 fights and watch the one in close, that you feel that needs the most attention.

It takes some practice, but when you get used to it, you will be multitasking

Yes I spend most of the time zoomed out. But when I know everything is okay and I'm just waiting for a battle to finish, I zoom in really close and watch everything blow up. It's quite satisfying.

Same with me, and if anything needs orders, I've got my entire fleet set up to hot keys
