I Am Now Prepared

I think

My first attempt at quitting smoking earlier this week was a disaster. I foolishly went into it thinking that it would be pretty easy and that I could just bull my way through the cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Yeah, right. It takes some planning and preparation just like much of anything else.

I finally made it back to the yard early this evening, dropped my trailer, and made a beeline to Wally World. I had a plan. I picked up a box of Nicoderm patches (wow are those suckers expensive!), some water, Gatorade, a bottle of alcohol to use to clean the skin before applying the patch (I'm told they stick better that way), and plenty of sugarless gum and sugarless sour candies.

Oh, and a bag of Jelly Belly jelly beans with which to treat myself if all goes well.

Tomorrow morning I'll be slapping on a patch and getting on with the business of quitting smoking once and for all. It still won't be easy but my earlier attempt did teach me a few things and I now have some better idea of what to expect as well as a decent game plan for dealing with the cravings and withdrawal in a more sane and realistic manner.

Weren't' you a boy scout.. always be prepared? lol It is hard.. I'm glad you realized you needed help.. bought reinforcements, and is ready to attack the monster of cravings again. Hang in there.. It isn't easy.. but I know you can do it. Each hour you don't smoke is a victory.. savor the small victories...

Thanks. I know it won't be easy but I'll manage it one craving at a time.

I punched a hole in the wall of the hall in my mobilehome back in 91...cause I was having a hard time coping with the cravings..

Maybe a punching bag would help?  It would have helped me ...

Good wishes for you

I've come across a couple of people I would have liked to punch in the last couple of days.

Congrats on being smoke-free my friend, despite what you went through to get there.

I've really been struggling with the quitting thing, but something an Asian lady said to me made a lot of sense. I said something to her about the fact that I was trying to quit smoking. She said (in a very thick Asian accent) "No, you do not try. You just quit. No try."

That made a lot of sense. Reminded me of Yoda. "Do or do not. There is no try".

Good luck, sir. That is a beast that too many people carry for far too long.

Keep it up.

Thanks. It's a tough demon to battle.
