Need info and help regarding those ads in some webstes because I accidentally pressed one..

help help

Ok surfed the net and when I'm scrolling up I accidentally pressed the ad by mistake if I remember it right it's "Free wallpaper get what you can" after I pressed it I exited it Immediately because I think there might be trojans/viruses/malwares etc. I scanned with ad aware and I didn't get any problems at all. So do you think I will get infected with the virus even if I exited the ad immediately? I looked at the cookies but the website is not there...actually did this twice by accident the first is the "free wallpapers" and the second is "best vacation site"

What's in those ads anyways like "you won this click to claim" whats usually inside that ad? And what will you get after you visited that site without even exiting it?? If the effect is so severe will your anti virus detect it? Or will that computer disease hide so that It can't be detected? Man those things are scary..I'm not doing this again..

best thing i can tell you is, go out and buy a program called spyware doctor, this is one of thee best anti-spyware programs you can get..install spyware doctor and update it then do a full scan you'll be suprised of all the spyware/adware/trojans it finds..i have it and it saved my arse alot of times

google Spywareblaster & Spybot Search & Destroy both free & good. Also CCleaner (free)

Keep these programs updated & run them weekly as well as your antispyware or run them after clicking a link like you did. Also keep your Windows updates up to date & use a firewall. AntiVirus does not always detect spyware or trojans but doing the above will help you and get rid of anything you may have accidentally downloaded. With the above programs and using caution on links & websites & e-mails you do not need to buy antispyware. Never have after 5 yrs and no problems at all.

Another option is to use FireFox browser & the extension Adblock Plus ....just google each. I also use the extension NoScript & Flashblock because I hate sites that have tons of stuff flashing in my face....this way I can let them show scripts or permanently block them or even allow them temporarily. And I use Remove it Permanently for the ads that occasionally get through. As well as McAfee SiteAdvisor

Adblock Plus
NoScript
Flashblock
Remove it Permanently
McAfee SiteAdvisor

Adaware

I've used this and McAfee Suite for years, and always get notification whenever I click on a site where there's any sort of adware or even annoying cookie potential. Both programs run at bootup and so can scan registry items and basically keep my PC pretty clean. McAfee Site Advisor is pretty new, and I use that too as it shows RED if a site is spooky at all. Regular full scans with a good program are at least good for my peace of mind.
Try the free ones recommended here and you'll see what works best for you. There's so many protection/cleaner programs available that I don't know where to start.
Have fun. Don't worry!

No your Antivirus probably would not alert you. They do not usually detect spyware or trojans well. Yes you can download spyware or trojans form ads. But scanning your computer with the programs I listed will let you know if you have any & usually clean them as well. Then run those programs at lest weekly including your antivirus. You must have a few different spyware programs because 1 does not cover find them all.

And being cautious is smart and easy to do once you make a habit of it and it really is great having a clean PC.

Yes you can still be caught but very slim chance.

**Use FF 2.0.3 newest version.....set FF to always ask you where to save files and have a special download folder on your desktop. Only select to download to that folder. By making FF ask where to download anything...even a jpg gives you the opportunity to stop any download you are not sure of. The extra time it takes...just a few extra secs is worth it.

All of the things I mentioned has kept my computer spotlessly clean for years

Can I ask what are the types of viruses in those ads?? and what are the effect's that they give you?
I just don't click on any ads at all. Then I don't have to worry or wonder what virus's/trojan's/malware or crap might get on my computer. And FF w/the extensions or add-ons that were mentioned in previous posts is really what you want to be using anyway. Beats the heck out of IE or any other browser.

Noobie22 Some of those popup ads are real sneaky....even when you click to close them they'll still open another popup or pop-under, even web pages that can/will install tracking cookies, spyware/malware, porn dialers & browser hijackers.

The better way to deal with them is not to touch them at all but close the main page they've been attached to.

Try this...go toWWW Link...download McAfee SiteAdviser. It's free and it sits on the bottom of your task bar. It has three colors...green means the site is safe...yellow means use caution and red means stay away!
If I see it turn red I exit that site real quick, don't even bother surfing it. It works and is a good starting point. Software mentioned happens to be among the best there is. I have all but spyware doctor. Spyware Blaster I use instead because it runs every day precisely a 6am. Many times it caught what others did not. It can even remove them. As far as effects go...they can make your computer do the strangest things. Windows open up on their own and start dancing around the screen and flashing...if you close them another takes it's place...and those are the mild ones. Best advice...if you're not sure about something...LEAVE IT ALONE!

Well before when I accidentally click the ad I was using mozilla that time, the newest version and with an ad-on AdBlock plus..And when I clicked the ad I immediately close the tab that popped out..And I looked at the cookies and there's no website or what so ever..to be sure I scanned with ad aware and there's none...And now scanned with avast and there was none...I will be scanning with spybot search and destroy in the future.

Is there a program that eliminates a virus/trojan/malware/spyware permanently and a freeware, easy to configure?(aside from spybot search and destroy) I hate those kind of viruses that eats your hard drives space!! it's so annoying.

You can trust the programs as long as you scan with all of them any time you accidentally click on an ad like you did...or end up suspecting anything funny & then running each program weekly after updating.

Rightclick on any page after it has loaded and choose which setting you want for that page.... for each page you load. This also does the settings for flash as well. You can also select options after rightclicking. It also lets the page load faster bc no scripts are slowing things down & also let you temporarily allow pages you are not sure of.
