My first and foremost hero is my Grandfather. World War II Vetran, now going on 83 years old, married for 61 of those years. He was a gruff man during my childhood and I was always scared of him, but he taught me what I needed to be taught and he did it with love. My second hero(s) are my children. They make me what I am.

My Dad was (is) my Hero..even though he's gone 6 years on May 3rd. He was the one that always came through for me. And when I needed a mediator between me and my mother. He was always the one that could sway her.

My other Hero is my best friend that keeps reminding me that life goes on even when your Hero is a memory

My hero is my son Harry. He was born 3 months premature on October 4th last year. He weighed less than a bag of sugar when he was born and spent almost 3 months in intensive care. For someone so small and helpless he was so strong and fought and fought against so much illness and kept fighting no matter what happened and eventually came home from hospital on December 28th after 85 days.

Now he is a few days short of being 7 months old and he is growing fast into a beautiful, bright, loving boy and he is absolutely my hero without a doubt. Before October 4th 2006, i never had a hero, but now i know i will have a hero for the rest of my life.

I created a photo website from when he was born so that people who werent able to visit him could watch him grow up day by day, its Harry Halpenny.com so please have a look at my hero...

Thank you for creating this thread Kitty, its given me some lovely memories of my little man!

Ray Bradberry for one and Gene Roddenberry, not for Star Trek but because he was a man of unique vision. There are others, like Isaac Asimov, Stephen Hawking just to mention a few. Sorry but I couldn't stop at just one. Too too many to mention.Oh...and lest I forget, an aunt on my dad's side who use to double for Mae West back in the day. I still to this day cannot remember her name.

My heros are many and are through out the world. It's all the folks that get up early in the morning go to work everyday, yea I mean everyday, are seen on the sidewalks but are never recognized. When they are at work they are never seen by us. They don't get smoke or coffee breaks, put in a hard and long day, drag their tried bodies home eat a modest meal and go to bed just to start the cycle all over again.

And because they do this we get to have all the toys and luxuries we want at our fingertips, not because they buy them for us because their jobs help make those everyday things get made or done. Yeah, they're my heros.

Now before anyone gets mad that I stole the thread these heros are your Fathers, Mothers, Uncles, Brothers and Sisters and yes people you probably will never meet in your lifetime.

My hero was and is my father. He passed away 6 years ago this last April 1. He was 97 years young. He was my rock. A gentle strong man with a big heart. He left a huge whole in this world when he left it, and in my life.

My cousin Craig.
He was an engineer, he canoed and back-packed all across Canada and our far north, and he also competed in triathlons. He took a year off work to travel the world, visiting England, Scotland, Germany, France and Austria. He then competed in cross-country ski races in Norway, helped locals build homes in tiny villages in the jungles of Thailand (braving guerrilla fighters), and worked on a huge ranch in Australia, driving cattle with jeeps and helicopters. It was there he was diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma, came home and died within 6 months - one month before his 30th birthday.
He always found the fun and beauty in life and living. During his illness he never once asked "why me", and was an inspiration to everyone. There is now a scholarship in his name at the university he attended. (It was his ordeal that spurred me to push my recreational running further - last year I ran 4 marathons, always with his name written on my race bib).

MY WIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!

Now you say , Wife? .... how could that be ?
Well as i read this post I started thinking of a name of
a hero .......... and after careful thought i came up
with the Wifey .............. why ?

At 57 she has gone down hill quickly with her Health , due
to many illnesses ( to many to List ) .. she has been reduced
to Life in a wheelchair - not being able to walk anymore just
because she doesn't have the strength too , blood count way low
needs a Kidney transplant too but was turned down for that so
she will be going on the machine soon .......... and if that's not enough
finally her eyesight is going going almost gone too ...... had to buy a
57" screen TV just so she could watch her soaps ........

And with all of this going wrong with her , she doesn't complain ...
she could complain daily and it would be justified but she doesn't ...
Don't get me wrong she bitches up a storm still - but that's her woman
thing - she can't do anything about that ..... so anyway ...

could you imagine yourself in that condition can't walk can't see 70%
gone - no computer anymore - can't see the keyboard keys or screen very well ?
can't see the changes in the kids and grandkids ...this list of things
you can't do in that condition goes on and on ..........

Yea my Hero ...... my Wife who quietly accepts her fait ....

I too have a hero who was born 3 months premature on April 24 1981. She was well under 3lb and fit in the palm of my hand for the first 2 weeks. Now she is a strapping 26yo, is a loving mother of one and expecting another in June.

What makes Romana so very special is that her mother walked out on us and her 4 yo brother while she was still in the humidicrib, yet she has become a loving and attentive, well balanced human being and mother in spite of it.

In fact, I have two heroes to look up to, both my son and daughter have become wonderful parents and great human beings, despite the absence of a mother's love during their formative years and most important parts of their youth.

Obviously my mother and father are heroes because I would be much less of a man without their love and care....the occasional tanned backside when I was out of line.

Mrs starkers is also a great hero, not just because she lets me play pirates....sometimes she'll even join in.

My heroes are those who selflessly help others stricken down by disease and poverty in parts of the world no civilised person would dare go.

Sadly the world is a place with too many suffering and not enough heroes

My hero is Jesus Christ. He has done more for me, than anyone else possibly could.
He has taken away my sins and made my life so wonderful and happy. He sacrificed everything he had for me.

If you get out of bed each day, work hard to provide for the necessities of life for yourself and your family, raise your kids up to respect others and contribute to society, and help those in need when you can.........

Then YOUR my hero
