Want to know how it works? When you focus on the dark and light shapes up there for any length of time it imprints on the rods(receptors for black and white shades) in your eyes..then if you stare away at something else or close your eyes you're still getting that image stuck in your brain because those rods are intensely stimulated. Kind of like when you look at the sun or a camera flash and see those colors...except cones(receptors that detect different colors) are affected as well which explains the color flashes.
Anywho, that's the science behind it. I've also seen this before and have people claim it's a Jesus-like figure...but I suppose that depends on your point of view, eh?

Thanks for that. Yes it does depend on your point of view who you see. For me it is a toss up Cat Stevens or Jesus?
