Amarillo Tonight

I'm parked in Amarillo, TX on my way to the Denver area. As I don't have to be in the Denver area until Monday morning I can relax and take my time. I'm going to spend the night here and then ease on up that way tomorrow.

I finally got paid and was able to pay up my Cingular bill so now I have net service full time again. I also mailed home a money order to pay my bills. They'll be about a week late but it couldn't be helped. It does feel good to have some money in my pocket once again.

As there's no sort of drinking establishment close by to the truck stop I'm going to call a cab in a little while and go explore Amarillo a bit. It should be fun. I do that a couple of times or so a year, just call a cab and tell the driver to take me to suitable establishment. A mini-adventure of sorts. I think the last time I did it was in Joplin, MO and another driver went with me and we split the fare. As I recall we had a blast.

I'm going to grab a bite to eat and then go exploring.

I was there last week and ate coconut shrimp and had a HUGE draw Coors light at the Joe's Crab Shack on I-40 West near the Westgate mall. Good ain't the word! But as far as bars go, it's been years since I've gone bar hopping in amarillo so I can't tell you much. But best I recall, I DID enjoy myself at the ones they did have tremendously!

Heh, I gotta recover from last weeks trip first before I can go again! Feeding four at Joe's crabshack plus ice cream at that marble slab creamery (on Sconcy? I can't remember for sure) and a motel room in Canyon at the Holiday Inn Express cost me!  

(But it was good to have the whole family together again and I loved every second of it!)

Gotta trust the cabbies. He dropped me off at Scooters, a biker bar. I had a really good time.

Nah. They aren't all that bad but that's the truck stop at the next exit up (I'm at the TA not the Petro). I had some really good brisket at the bar.

Thanks. This is the first time I've spent time here. I've passed through here many times but never took the time to check it out. It was well worth the cab fare. Let's just say the ladies here are very friendly.

The meal offer's still on the table. I know we're out of your path, and Dumas is further than I'd like to head to meet up, but I figgered if I could catch you while you were still in Amarillo, we could catch a bite.

Have a safe trip. Weather's supposed to head in tomorrow night from what I've heard, so it might not be a bad idea to get squared away in Denver ahead of it.

Thanks. It's now on my list of favorite towns to spend the night. I had a really good time at Scooters last night. Good people, lousy band, and no trouble.
