Oh Man! Do I Look That Old?

Geez. I don't feel old. Well, ok, maybe my body does at times, but mentally I don't feel old and I'm still as mentally sharp as I've ever been.

What was I talking about?

Oh yeah.

I went over to the grocery store to pick up another 12 pack as someone sneaked into my room and drank mine while I wasn't looking. I was standing in line waiting to pay for my purchase. WI has this thing where they have to enter your birth date into the register any time you buy anything evil like alcohol or tobacco. The guy in line in front of me told the cashier his birth date.

Damn! He's only four months older than I am but he looks, well, middle aged. He was 3/4 bald and looked a lot older than I do. Or does he?

Maybe I look older than I think I do. I know my beard makes me look older because it has some grey in it. Or maybe it makes me look my age?

Damn! I'm reminded of the time a few years back when I was in a club down in TX talking to this very cute college girl and thought I was really doing well. At some point in the conversation she called me "sir". That really took the wind out of my sails, let me tell you! It was nice talking to you kid.

The idea that I am basically the same age as that guy in line in front of me kinda struck me to the quick. He looked...well...old. I can't be old. Except for the aches and pains here and there I feel pretty much the same as I did when I was 16. Well, ok, maybe a little smarter.

Shit, that "little smarter" bit is a sign of maturity. I'm doomed! And I'm old!

When did this shit happen? I don't even remember any damn hill let alone going over it.

This simply isn't fair!

Tell me about it! There are times when I wonder where my youth has gone, even though I still get the "you don't look your age" comments once in a while, which is always sweet and even though I feel like 20!!

Facial hair is known to make a person look older anyway, just chop it off or style it into a goatee! Whohooo!

I think my mind is older than it should be...which is fine, as long as I don't go into premature senility.

Other than that...I feel as young as I am.

Yeah I know the beard adds to it. I've been considering shaving it off but am resisting.

Nice!  Used a quote from one of my favorite movies!

Besides, I am not old.  Just wisened.

living in the heart of wine country has taught me I am not old just "finely aged to perfection"

Someone told me once that when we look into a mirror we see ourselves younger than others see us. I think maybe that's true because when I look at pictures of me, I think I look older when I see myself in pics than I do when I look in the mirror.

I'm constantly being told I look younger than I am. It's genetic. Some have even thought I was my husband's daughter...hahahah. He's six years older and looks older than his years. He takes it as a compliment.

Last week I told a young mom that I'll be 50 in 4 years and she gasped and said, "you don't look that old." Then she apologized and said quickly, "I didn't mean to say that you're old." She was kind of flustered.

Life is but a vapor.

It's funny how it sneaks up on you. I don't feel old at all then I go get my drivers license renewed and they ask me my birthdate. After I give it to her I think to myself, "Damn, I'm that old? WTF?" It may sound weird but mentally I'm so much younger that I was surprised to hear my own age.

What I don't understand is "why do those people at concerts look so old,  the ones that are my age?"...

Or try catching an unexpected glimpse of yourself in a window!  Who's that?  you might ask yourself...

Ahhhhh,  getting older.....in my 40's I felt like was still in my 30's...now?  .....still feel like I"m 46!!  only the image isn't the same!

Hang in there Mason,  it gets better

Yeah, I figure if I colored my hair, had some of my age spots lasered, sebaceous cysts removed, wrinkles injected with botox and collagen, teeth veneered, lost 20 pounds and firmed my muscles up I just might look younger. But then I get tired just thinkin' 'bout that stuff. It's funny, people at work usually tell me I look about seven years younger than I actually am, but the women that come on to me are usually about ten years older. Oops! Did I say that out loud?

Yeah, I'm simply not vain enough to go through all of that crap. I usually have older women come on to me too so I know what ya mean.

One day you're being asked for ID and seemingly the next, people are offering up their seats on a bus for you.
