Trade ships and Trade ports

How do you use "trade ships".. I have a trade port which has 6 ships around it.. but.. now what?

My ally keeps saying please make one, but.. I have one..

I finally got them to work , by building one at another planet or asteroid, then they start to trade.

This should have been covered in the Economic Tutorial, but it was not

How do you get them to trade with other races then?

If you have a trade agreement with them then you will trade with the other factions. The trade ships are completely automated... I don't think that you can tell them where to go if you wanted to.

Thats cool, so there are civilian ships after all.

Can you assign guards to them?

I haven't tried to assign ships for defense, but I doubt it... The trade ships are also free. ( they come with the station )

Also once a planet gets to level 3 infrastructure, the planet has thousands of tiny ships shooting all over the place, it looks amazing!
