Anyone else getting just a LITTLE tired of people comparing this to Homeworld?

People are always moaning on other boards that this game is a rip off of Homeworld or Nexus, but what they do not seem to understand is that those games are old! Their still good but they can't expect us to sit playing them until the end of time, a new space strategy game was gonna come along eventually.

Yes there are definite similarities but when people start saying "oh its a total rip off I'm not going to get it" it really gets on my nerves.

People use Homeworld and Nexus as benchmarks to argue that SOASE is unoriginal, would they care to point me to another RT4X game?

Are we really THAT afraid of change?

Thats like saying Supreme Commander is rip-off of Total Annihilation. When clearly its not , and even if it was , its okay because they were both made by the same guy. In a way IC have some history with cataclysm

well, give them about 5minutes during the launch of SOASE and you'll be seeing the same people talking crap in front of the line on the day of release. i know for a fact that if you love eve or hw this game will difinitely keep a boastful shit talker mouth wide shut. and then maybe comes back here on this forum and change their name and information and post a comment to tell the whole world how awsome this game is.

Real HW fans have been watching this game since IC first unveiled it and know that it is not HW although even the best of us had to take a few seconds to get over it what with the fact that if we ever see another HW, it's not likely to be from Relic and definitely Vivendi who is just sitting their bloated, gangrenous butt on the license for now.

That line of thought, about stealing and copying another isn't much different then the ammount of nonsense that plagued me -- by others -- in website, mod, and graphic design over similarities and coincidences. Pretty much, there are some really over-zealous people that believe they must defend their favored item against anything infringing on their views of it, regardless if it needs it or not.

Isn't to uncommon to see people criticizing another game about it taking ideas from another game. On the other hand, I will criticize a game for failing to look at other games about how they did things better, and then releasing that game with sometimes grossly inferior elements. Honestly, developers and designers shouldn't be trying to re-invent the wheel every time they commit to a new project, they should be improving on past ideas, and making better products.

In the end, let them moan, if they honestly wont buy games over similarities then their gaming enjoyment will eventually stagnate or they will end up changing their views (at some point).

I actually thought it wasn't like Homeworld at all. Yes, it has Homeworld elements (which I like), but I was thinking for a whole week whether or not the "4x" factor can appeal; when it comes down to it, all I want is giant space battles. That's why I watch Battlestar Galactica.

Oh man... It pains me to say it, but I'm not sure there's going to be another collosal BSG space battle for a while. The ship's beat up and the writers appear to have overestimated their abilities to create compelling love pentagons.

Supposedly they actually climb into vipers tonight though. Hope there's a little action although I'll be happy enough to see what all the hubbub among the actors and producers is about this particular episode.
