Who Will Win? Mother Nature or Technology?

I'm sitting at the port in Philly. I just loaded an oversized crate and am waiting for permits so I can move with it. It's some sort of giant machine used to make chocolate of all things. Now it's a matter of time. I can move after the sun sets because it's an oversized load, and I also can't move with it until at least the PA permit arrives via fax.

Now it's a question of who will win this little race. Will Mother nature win and the sun go down on me sitting here in this port, or will our technology get the permit here in time for me to not only be able to move out but to reach a truck stop before the sun sets?

It's now 2:30PM Eastern time. I still have a few hours before the sun sets. I really don't wish to spend the night sitting here in this trash heap of an area. I need to get rolling very soon or I'll be unable to reach a safe harbor for the night. At this point, until the permits arrive, I don't even know what route I need to take or I'd just try to sneak on out and reach a truck stop. Any guess I might make regarding the route would probably be wrong, so I'll just have to sit here and hope the permit folks are on top of their game today and get them sent out right away.

But I'm not holding my breath.

Technology is fickle. Mother nature is relentless. No one changes her, or her time table.

I decided to cheat and run up the road anyway. I took an educated guess as to the route and headed out. Just about the time I reached a truck stop I got a call that the permits were in. Turns out I picked the right route. Turns out there's a bar next to this truck stop.

The rest is history, or will be one day.

I'm running with another of our drivers, hauling the same thing that I am. We are now sitting just outside of Harrisburg, PA waiting for the morning curfew to end so we can pass through Harrisburg. We're not allowed to go through until 9:00am.

I should have slept in a bit.
