Domestic Policy: Trade

In the minimap that shows trade routes, highlight/backlight the sectores that have trade routes going through them. This helps especially on larger maps as well as identifies those "really close" lines.

A second feature is to add information on clicking or fly-over. Particulary, the number of routes through the sector, your trade bonus (% and $) in that sector, as well as the sector coordinates.

Cheers,
/ds

In the Govorner Social Que (which i otherwise think is great and use all the time) I find it very annoying that i can pull up the statistics of what each improvement does. I have to either go from memory or switch out to a view of a planet and find out what it does there and go back.

Similarly, on the tech tree it will show what technologies follow after the current one. However, i would like to be able to click on those future techs and find info on what ALL their prereqs are (since its not always just the one im researching eg battleship tech) and perhaps something about what they do.

Thanks for your time

P.S. Galciv was great in OS/2 days and it seems youve made it great in today's modern world too.

Interactive Tactical Map:

1. When mouse is placed over any circle representing your planet a tool tip appears with information such as:
a. name of planet
b. social/military projects
c. economic/influence/culture etc... data

2. When left mouse is click'd on circle, planet is selected and planet list appears on left side similar to left clicking in standard map screen

3. When left mouse is double-click'd on circle, planet view of selected planet is displayed

Maybe it was just me but once my control of galaxy dropped to 1/2 of the leader my colonies started revolting against me. Problem was he was weakened from constant attack and I was just starting to take back planets I had lost. All sudden lost 2 planets and my production went to south. I thought that computer AI revolted against government but not my own. If so then this has to be toned down to about when a player represents less then 10% of the galaxy or when the winning player owns 90% of it.

Just a suggestion but would make it more realistic. Oh and have it so your homeworld cannot revolt and they must be taken down with invasion. Was not happy when my homeworld revolted at the very end... Kinda sucked big time.

Suggestion.

Supply modules for starbases. Extends range of ships as if it were a planet (not as far though). Extra modules provide extra range. Allows Starbases to act as hubs for long range invasion fleets.

The AI shouldn't demand money from you when you're in-debt. Just seems kinda silly that they threaten you for money, when you have a defecit.

My 2 cents.

I really enjoy the game and congratulate the team for continuous support to its customers.

In terms of improvements or additions, I would echo several previous suggestions:
1 - Toning down(or adjusting) or random events so as to affect but not dominate play. Similarly, minor races should preferably have minor effects and not dominate the galaxy on lower levels of difficulty.
2 - Additional still scenes for important society or galaxy events, such as the surrender or elimination of a race, or the change of government structure. I agree with a previous comment that it does not need to be an animated cutscene but it would be nice to get a picture that breaks the pace when something important happens.
3 - At least a still picture for minor races or some graphical depiction on the diplomatic screen would make it warmer exchanges.
3 - A guide to random event scripting so enthusiastic fans can devise new ones (and maybe even generate their own art to assist developers). This can please the fans without burdening Stardock.

As a larger add-on, I was thinking it would be nice if the expansion (too big for a simple update) could bring some additional major races. I understand that 6 major players may not be changeable for play balance but it would be nice not to know in advance who the competition was right away (after all we can't understand aliens at the start). These may not be new AI algorithms (they may share existing ones) but these new races might differ slightly in terms of starting abilities and looks from existing ones. I remember that I really enjoyed the sense of unknown that I got when playing Alpha Centauri and having a dozen custom factions, in addition to the dozen official ones, as potential enemies at the start of a game and only discovering through exploration and time which were the true 6 rivals out of the 24 potentials.

Again, a great game. I understand graphics are not the meat of this strategy game but low-tech stills would add a bit a gravy!

Thx

What does "kill route" mean? Let's press it and find out! Duh, there goes a trade route! OK, I suppose I know that now... but an "Are you sure?" might be nice there.

Well here's my two cents. First off I have to say that I love this game, and will continue to love it for years to come. Now, a few minor suggestions that I think will improve the flavor of the game.

*I'd really like to see more control over the Galactic Senate, such as the ability for the player to call a meeting of the Senate and propose laws from a list that would be beneficial to ones own empire or to others. This way influence will play a greater role in the overall stratagy of the player. To make this more interesting the player would have to research a tech such as "Galactic Law" before being given the ability to call meetings and propose laws. Some laws could be trade embargos against a race, being banned from the senate, no race being able to declare war on another senate member with out full backing of the senate, and finally a law prohibiting or promoting all out wars with the minor races.

*More penalties associated when losing control of your domestic government. Such as having the controling party override descisions such as wars and making peace with your enemies, by giving up tech or money behind your back. Or if the war party is in power they might decided to attack an ally or steal tech from friendly races. Government types such as Star Federation should be opposed to war and have planets defect if a war is sustained for long periods of time. But only if the war is engaged by the player not if the player is attacked or fullfiling alliance obligations.

*More options for espionage, being given the options to steal tech, destroy buildings, use nuclear/biological devices to destroy planet populations. These options should only be made available when you've researched the right tech, and when you've spent enough money on espionage and have infiltraited the enemy races top levels of government and military.

*Planatary bombardment screen would be nice window dressing for those who like that extra special touch a mushroom cloud brings to a planet surface.

*Finally, more movement points for Terror Stars and more penalties for building them, such as having trade embargos placed on you, expulsion from the Galactic Senate...

Thanks for your time, and thanks for a wonderful game! :)

Option to turn off random events.

I'm very, very, very mad at the moment. I've had 3 good games ruined today by random events. Last game ruined featured this line up for random events: Space Sharks, Pirates, Space Sharks, Pirates, Space Sharks, Pirates.

I also got to watch enemy transports immediately run across the univers whenever one of my worlds got clipped by the sharks. Er... does the AI get to know the state of my worlds at all times to begin with, or does it merely have special espionage to know the state of my worlds at all times that I've yet to achieve on it? Very aggravating.

Being able to enable or disable random events at the start of the game would have been useful. I'd have disabled them and not had the shark/pirate raving cycle.

Thanks for your time.

I haven't played much yet, but starbases seem nearly useless in giant galaxies, because theres simply too much sectors to cover if you have even a remotely decent empire. Perhaps increase the sector size for giant maps a bit ?

Also, some more "racial" settings in the start (although the bonuspack might add some of those): bonus not only to research, but also to production, bonus to planet quality (i.e. you add one point here and you see a 14 planet as "white" and it gets treated as a 15 planet), etc.

If someone's still reading, a couple cosmetic changes :
- Ship List presented by "stacks" will help managing big fleets
- In the Ships stacked panel, a text list of what's there in addition to the icons (ie "4 Corvettes, 2 Battlecruisers, 1 Transport") will be instantly more readable. Maybe acronyms (BC for Battlecruiser, TR Transport, and so on) would be needed to keep the list small

- "Destroy Colony" button NEEDS to have a confirmation window !!! It exists for disbanded ships ...

I have to admit that I haven't botherered reading 300+ posts, but here are 3 ideas:

Too many screens never refresh once opened (e.g. Planet List/Planet Details) and the Sector map does not remove low morale warnings after the issue has been resolved until the start of the new turn.

The diplomacy screen should have a 'research level' listed alongside the techs, similar to those in Alpha Centauri (B1 for Build 1 etc).

It is hard to work out what is a reasonable offering for some of the tech's. I have a good memory, but I can't remember if Instant Communications is equivalent to Interstellar Trade, let alone how valuable/difficult the techs I never get the chance to research are (Artificial Slaves/Dark Side etc). While this can be resolved with a tech tree, it's still easier not to have to spend 10 minutes looking things up.

Stealing from other games again, an in game 'Civelopedia'is a must have. I want to be able to look at the effect of a building from the planet screen, or a tech from the diplomacy screen.

Not sure if this has been mentioned before. Instead of scrollers for Planets and Fleet lists, maybe a drop down box for selection of sorting the list?

My suggestions: (no i did not read 3 billion last posts)

1) Either pop-up when your cash goes negative or a "no deficit" button (auto adjust spending). It too easy to get absorbed in the game and find "whoa" how did i go from 1300 to a deficit of -600.

2) Add my voice to the encyclopedia/hyperlink fo trade techs on diplo request

3) Pop up that tells you when alliances and wars break out between the major powers. Its just too silly checking the treaties stab every turn of waiting until you see an explosion.

4) Make an offer or "how much for just the planet" ability in diplo. If I have an item i want to sell/trade or if the IA has something i want I'd like to be able to see what they would be willing to ask for it. Right now there isnt much feed back on what constitutes a good offer

5) I love the idea of giving the senate something to do and making it a bit more proactive; right now all you need to do is just drop taxes the mo. prior to an election.

6) feedback on your "destabilization" impact. You get spying feedback but i have never seen any feedback on the impact of my destabilizing activities

7) Minor race pics would be nice

8) very minor: Change transport and colony ship to colony/transport fleet. I just get the tongue in cheek feeling seeing ship filled with 1-2 billion people.

9)Espionage: Ability to do counter espionage. I have feeling i'm being destabilized but not much i can do about it; catch some spies ala MOO style.

10) Definately nice to bring some of your own proposals to UP.

11)a la EU/EU II ability to declare the territorial integrity of minor/faction. It get ssoo hard to have allinaces that i think there should be a way to make statement about what constitutes a causus belli. (ie Keep your grubby hands of Belgium feature"

12) "you have not moved all ships" pop-up at end of turn (its too easy to forget moving ship/fleet).. make this a selectable option!!

Fixes
1) refresh issues for changes immediately after made

2) Why is it my best attack ship and/ transports/colony ships always gets creamed while in stack on defend. If i have 3 defenders and battecruiser in an area wouldnt it make more sense for the defenders to take hits first.

3) I have no probs with extra minor cash to keep them healthy but these uber minors (almost always have the lgst populations) need to be toned down whiel others need to be beefed up (some races never build military at all)

4) Ability to transfer populatiosn via troops/colony ships w/o taking insane morale hits. Ie I take class 23 world and it has 500 pop. (troops) i transfer 4 000 from earth (very overcrowded) .. move to class 23 world and its morale drops to 10. Gee all that free land and they still tell the govt "you suck." WIth a 23 and may pop of over 10 bil you'd think it woul dbe that crowded.
4b) when these worlds drop in morale soo much it appear s they lose most of their improvements. (i found this our transferrng 1 bil between planets the destination planet dropped tons of moral eand many improcvements (lab, med centr..ect) wer eg)

The game doesn't make a big enough deal about Galactic Wonders. Even a little picture of the wonder in action or something would be nice.

War happens too unceremoniously. There should be a pop-up with an angry alien face or something.

There should be some notification of the demise of a race.

Troop numbers are absolutely insane. It feels odd to inflict 4+ billion casualties over a planet with maybe that many civilians.

The research and, if memory serves, the ship construction queue can be switched while retaining the work already done and without incurring a penalty. The work done should be stored in case you return to that ship and you should have to start fresh on the new choice.

There are too many boring anomolies. Some suggestions: unique ships, access to techs that cannot normally be learned, production bonuses to nearby planets, treasure hoards, special creatures, alien marauders, survey ship gets held in stasis or accelerated by several turns, or the appearance of a new star system that was somehow trapped in subspace.

WHil I understand that cultural influence if more nebulous than borders, there should still be some mechanism for warning AIs out of your territory.

The AI doesn't seem to bother collecting many anomolies.

Here are a few things needed to get rid of some unnecessary tedium:

--- a list of uncolonized planets, sorted by quality. Now where was I going to send this colony ship? Right now, I have to hunt through every star system one by one, unless there's a better way I don't know about

--- capitalism. You know, that old Civ2 enhancement that converted unused production into cash? Or how about a MOO1 'reserve', where unused production goes into an imperial slush fund? Maybe I don't want to build a social program on planet X, but I do on all the others. Is there something I'm missing here?

--- a way to find the optimize trades with cash. This is probably the most annoying aspect of the game. I *know* the trade is lopsided and I need to how much cash needs to be given or taken to even the deal. Right now I have to try and retry various options, tediously, to find out what works best.

more ideas:

-- need to be able to zoom out somewhat on the main map. A view that could show a 3x3 sector view would be plenty.

-- also, it would be nice if anomalies were displayed on the mini-map somehow. I spend way too much time trying to target my survey ship on anomalies that my scout discovered 15 turns earlier!
